Any reason NOT to get a Mei Tai?

I have a Moby now but I know I'll want to start back-carrying my babe soon. She is 5 months and about 16#. I am very chubby so I feel like the Ergo will make her legs be around a beach ball! It also looks like it carries the baby much lower on the back than I'd want.

So I've watched several Mei Tai videos and they seem very affordable. I am concerned about it being secure. Should I get a Kozy?

Anyone have problems with this one?

A well-made MT would deifnately suit you well with the 5 month old and as she grows - the material is very secure and not stretchy like the moby.

The Kozy is a great, established brand. so is Babyhawk, which is what i usually reccomend : )

I second the babyhawk. They are soooo comfortable and really pretty

I really like my Mei Tai baby - it feels super secure and well made to me. I like the option to narrow the bottom of the carrier too, as DS is small and doesn't like his legs to splay out too much

You read my mind, Marina. I was very concerned about this. The mei tai kozy seems to really splay the legs a lot. So the one you have, what is the brand name?

Our Kozy is great for support and comfort for us both, and is gorgeous. The legs splaying isn't bad, hardly more than cloth diapers do on him all day. The only drawbacks for me are it isn't discrete or easy to nurse in and the ties are long and can drag on the ground while I'm getting it on and off. It's the only one we still use at 11 months. Also I tried it on wearing DS1 in back carry at 2.5 years old with me pregnant and it was comfy then too.

It's by MeiTaiBaby - www.meitaibaby.com - I really love the way it's made and Elisabeth is great with customer service. I got my from a local babywearing store (www.attachedtobaby.com) and I tried it on as well as trying on a babyhawk and liked the narrower body on the MeiTaiBaby. I'm very petite and so is DS so it worked better for us.
Good luck! Post pictures when you get one!

Love love love my Babyhawk! I love the back carry for an older baby. Plus I can put DD on my back which gives me the option to carry DS in arms if I need to get him somewhere quickly.

Agreed that the tails drag quite a bit. Also the back seemed too high for her for a while. She likes having her arms out. The leg splaying really isn't an issue. Still haven't figured out how to nurse in it yet, but since DD is older she goes longer between, so I usually can find a place to sit or she can wait til we get to the car or whatever.

We just got a Mei Tai Baby MT and we love love love it! I also have a Moby and a Maya Sling.

Here's a picture of my DH and DS#2 modeling the Mei Tai:

I love my mei tei's I have 2 - a Kozy and a MOMTai - and I used to have a babyhawk that I *loved* (it got caught outside of my car door somehow and subsequently shredded... I still have it actually, someday maybe I'll do something with the fabric from it ). I tried an ergo and wasn't a fan - the body is so much shorter and I just totally felt/feel like ds2 could easily flip out backwards (which has *never* been a worry in a mei tie )

Sharon your DH and DS are so cute!!! Great photo! I can totally see getting more MTs - they are so addictive! although right now I'm debating ordering a headrest for my MTbaby. DS likes to snooze on me and the headrest would be nice to have.
I think I'm going to practice a backcarry for the first time today. Wheeee!!!
