May Queer Conceptions 2010 - Page 5

Korey I really enjoyed hearing the longer version of your story. The part about the bully doctors was bad--really glad you made the choice to try in a more supportive environment. I agree that Brill's advice to get three signs to line up doesn't always work well with frozen sperm. I think that advice is ideal for fresh. On the other hand, she is the expert! And she does say that most women inseminate too late. Sigh. Getting the timing just right is the very hardest part, I think (even harder than the TWW). I hope that this cycle does the trick, but it is good to know that you have a supportive RE ready, just in case. I admire you for losing weight and cutting out sugar. Any tips for how you actually managed to do that?

afm I'm super duper excited! I just spoke with the NP at PRS, and we are going to do ultrasound monitoring (and maybe, if I want, hcg shot) next week to get the IUI timing just right. I'm so unsure about my timing, so the idea of having actual reliable information is really exciting. And I'll also be doing the fresh inseminations, so I'll have great coverage. I've never had monitored cycles and figured that I wouldn't unless/until my insurance coverage kicks in after 6 mo of trying. I know that many folks still don't conceive even with monitoring and the trigger shot, but I'm feeling really optimistic about it. Next week is my conception week! (What a rollercoaster--I'll probably be down in the dumps two weeks from now, but I'll enjoy this while it lasts ).

Hi Everyone,

AmandaHope: It sounds like you have a fantastic plan. Hooray!

LibraryLady and anyone else with experience with progesterone and/or suppositories: can I ask you some more questions?
1. Taking progesterone means that my temp will stay high and I won't get my period regardless of if I'm pregnant or not, right?
2. Do home pregnancy tests still work?
3. Since prometrium is a pill, is the idea that I just shove it up as far as I can into my vagina? (Sorry if that image disturbs you--it disturbs me too! )
4. I have to take it at night and in the morning. I can imagine taking it at night and then not getting up for a while, but in the morning I'm up and moving and showering and using the bathroom. How do I keep the little pill in? Should I set my alarm earlier and put it in while I still have time to stay in bed for a while?

Thank you!!

Escher--from the manufacturer's website, it appears that it is a pill that you swallow, not an intra-vaginal product. That sounds way preferable to me!
Totally true, but my doctor wants me to take it vaginally (and from some googling I've done it looks like that is common and that it causes fewer side effects than if you swallow it). Thanks, though, for the heads up--if I had been confused, that would have been important to know!

i took the oral pills vaginally morning and night...

1. i'm not sure if your temps will still stay as high (mine did but i was pg). i would assume that they would stay high until you stop taking them. some ppl say that AF will stay away until you stop taking them... i'm not sure, though i do speculate that i didn't actually lose the pg (ie. bleed) as early as i would have had i not been on progest sups.
2. i'm pretty sure that hpt still work, however i never poas my pg cycle so i wouldn't actually know.
3. i started putting it as far in there as i could but then later in my cycle i got "careless" and just got it in there. my levels were fairly high once i started taking them, so i assume it works way up there or just in there enought to break down and absorb.
4. the pill just stays up there... don't ask me how, it just does.

also, i didn't really need a pantyliner because of excess leakage but my CM did come out "chalky" so you may want to use one anyway. and the pills didn't make me smell any different.

good luck! and i have all of my limbs crossed for you...

ETA: i guess that your liver takes away some of the goodness if you take the pills orally....

Sorry, I cant help you much with that... I was on progesterone before during my IVF cycle but it was through intramuscular injections

I do remember that I didnt get my period until I stopped them tho.

Oh! Sorry about that!

Coco- Sorry about BFN There is still hope!! When is AF due?

Escher- Sorry about the confusing cycle! I am glad that others were able to give you advice about the supplements, navigating that all sounds like a lot!

Wehrli- I am glad your acupuncture was nice and I hope it does the trick!!

AmandaMom- Hope that you're doing well during 2ww

Korey- Oh my gosh that is terrible and I am sorry that you had to go through that. How ignorant of that doctor to be so stuck in what he always does to not consider your individual wants and needs. Grr! I am glad that you have found someone better. Also glad that your mom is so excited. I related so much to what you said- even though we just started trying we have been preparing for this and wanting this for so long!

Newbian- Hope that you're feeling better!

Oh my goodness! That is too funny and aslo disturbing. Glad that you're feeling optimistic about this try! Looks like we will be Oing & riding the Tww rollercoaster together. for a well timed cycle!!

I could not agree more! Also for you having conversations like that must be so hard!

AFM- It appears as though the symptoms I was having were due to the prenatal vitamins I was taking. I knew that they were making me nauseous so I decided to take a break from them during AF. When I started taking them again the pain near my kidneys came back. Called the doctor's office and they told me to stop taking them and take 2 chewable Flinstone vitamins instead. I am OK with this soluntion for now but will revisit this with my doctor once I am pregnant just to make sure I am actually getting everything the baby needs. But yay for not having kidney pain!

Good morning all!

I've never heard of taking pills vaginally~ how bizarre! But the part about goodness being removed by the liver makes sense. In that case, I don't know about the pantiliner thing~ my suppositories are just that: they're made of some weird kind of wax that makes a big smelly mess. My temps were normal for the cycle, and the first times I used them, my period did not start until I stopped taking it, then this time I started spotting. I do wake up a bit earlier and put it in then go back to sleep, otherwise it'd just fall out. And hpts work as far as I know. Mine have all been neg, but I don't think that's the fault of the meds.

Coco~ big hugs! I'm sorry you're feeling so down, but I think if you're only 12 dpo it's still too early to be too sad. Is your temp still going up? I think you should keep that brave face on and keep peeing. It still could be your month!

burg, your vitamin problems sound dreadful! I've been taking them for over a year and haven't had any problems, but everyone is different for sure.

Newbian~ how are you doing? And have you recovered from this week's Lost? I'm still crying!!!

I'll start peeing on the opks tomorrow~ we're guessing insem will be Sunday or Monday and then we'll be off again....

AmandaHope - Yay for monitored IUI's! With everything you've got planned, this cycle can't go wrong! Stay positive, confident, and comfortable during your trip, and I just know you'll have a nice, clear BFP as a reward for all your hard work. I'm really pulling for you.

escher - I'm sorry I know nothing about progesterone supplements, but wehrli and Library Lady seem to be very knowledgable. I did want to say I hope they help you to achieve that BFP!

Coco - It just must be too early. Didn't I read on the success stories thread someone didn't get a BFP until 15 dpo? Earth Mama, I think. There is still hope, and I'm thinking of you and DP. That chart is just too amazing to not be a BFP!

Burg - I can't believe the prenatal vitamins you were taking gave you kidney pain! Actually, I can believe it. Mine are horse pills. I'd much rather chew a couple of Flintstone vitamins. If you eat enough fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc., you don't really need the prenatal anyway. They're just kind of a backup.

Library Lady - Good luck catching that surge! I can't remember how many cycles you've tried so far. I'm sure it gets harder each time, but hang in there and try to stay positive! Brill says age ISN'T always a factor, so don't let that get you down. You are young and healthy and going to get pregnant! Within the next week!

Newbian Mama - Hanging in there? Thinking of you.

AFM, 7 dpo and I think I felt my first fake symptom! I felt a tiny cramp in bed last night, and I of course thought it was implantation. There weren't any dips or spikes in my chart, though. My temps have never been more consistent.

9dpo

Good morning all. I'm still here, just too grumpy to post. I don't want you all to have to suffer my wrath I have been reading and keeping up with everybody and sending you all lots of . I think I am going to spend the afternoon in deep meditation in the hopes of shaking this bad mood. I'm so grumpy that I'm sick of myself! Lol!

Oh yeah, Library Lady, I am in SHOCK about Lost. Although I was tearing up during the last scenes, I held it together until Hurley bawled and then I did too
post #93 of 402
Newbian Mama - Meditation sounds like a great plan.

Coco - I forgot to say I couldn't find you on facebook.

You or anyone else can find me on facebook here. I'd love to add any or all of you as friends. When you send the request, just add a note with your MDC screen name so I know who you are.
Newbian~ sorry about the grumpyness, but this is the time for it for sure! And speaking of time, doesn't it just craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawl along these two weeks! How are your temps? What day are you on now? And yes to the shock!!! I'd managed to stop crying when Hurley started and that set me off all over again.

Hi Everyone,

I'm very tempted to friend you guys on facebook, but I worry that if I don't have this semi-anonymity I won't feel as free to talk about things like the consistency of my cervix. Hmm. Clearly you all are braver than I am.

Wehrli and LibraryLady: Thank you very much for your advice about progesterone. So far it seems to be making me feel warmer than usual but otherwise it is ok. Hopefully that continues!

Newbian Mama: Good luck with the grumpies! I hope that lots of delightful things happen soon to make things a little bit better!

AmandaMom: You're halfway through the TWW! Way to go!

LibraryLady: It's exciting that your inseminations are coming up soon! How are you feeling about the cycle so far?

Burg: I'm glad that you figured out the vitamin issue! Hopefully the flintstones will be kinder to you.

Coco: I'm sorry you're still having to wait for the BFP. Your chart still looks gorgeous!

AFM: I'm pretty sure that I'm not pregnant (given that I had a BFN today, at what is probably 13dpo), so I'm trying to enjoy this little time with progesterone as an interesting experiment. I'm going to take the progesterone until Monday morning when I have my next progesterone blood test. We'll have to decide if I should start on progesterone next cycle right after the IUIs.
Escher~ I do start my progesterone three days after IUI, just to make sure my luteal phase is long enough for anything that's going to implant to get it done. Glad you're emjoying the extra warmth!

I'm excited about insem coming up, but I don't know how I'm feeling about this cycle. The doc's reality check has made me a little dejected but I'm trying to keep my chin up. I don't know, honestly. I kinda feel like I have no feelings, like how I feel about it doesn't matter. I'm trying to be pragmatic scientist this time, since being emotionally overwrought's done nothing so far but make me cry. So, I don't know if that answers your question, but there you go. I am laughing about facebook and cm. Yeah, as much as I love sharing tales of the vagina with you guys, I don't think it's something my fb peeps need to know
post #97 of 402
Thank you all for the virtual hugs. I feel much better after talking to my two y/o niece and basically getting over myself.

LibraryLady - I'm on 9dpo and feeling pretty good with the 2ww. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to the BFN/BFP question for this cycle but I'm not testing yet. I had a big drop in temps yesterday and then a big rise today so who can tell with that.

I'm on chapter 3 of Perfect Peace and I am intrigued already. I love books where the characters are not black and white but are multifaceted shades of gray, like we are in real life.

escher12 - I agree with you on Facebook. If y'all knew who I was I might not feel comfortable posting about my EWCM

I'm sorry you got a BFN today. Is your LP usually 14 days?

AmandaMom - I like that you're calling it your 'fake symptom' so that you're not all cuckoo during the 2ww. Are you still going to wait until the 12th to test?

It seems we usually post at the same time It can't hurt to be excited about a cycle, better than going into it feeling dejected, IMHO. What day are you on in this cycle?

Coco - It's still early, only 12dpo. Check the FF site and look at all the charts where women didn't get a BFP until day 16 or later. In fact, I saw one today who didn't get a BFP until 26dpo!!

Hey Burg !

AF is due tomorrow. So I'll guess we will have a better idea by saturday morning one way or the other.

About the flinstones vitamins.... I'm going to compare them with the prenatal that DP is taking, she has an awful time with swallowing them so that would be good if she could have those instead ! Thanks for sharing !

Allright for the brave face
Our temps are not going up anymore but they remain at the highest point so far... so we will see !

Best of luck for easy insems and a great timing !
