Photographing and/or Videotaping the Birth - Page 2

The water birth? Second baby? DH a chiro? Great show. I NEVER watch a baby story cause it makes me CRAZY...but, my DH previewed it for me and deemed it watchable.

I hate to sound like a spoil-sport , but a number of hospitals are prohibiting people from videotaping births. It's a liability concern; they don't want you to have evidence of anything if you took them to court. OP, if you're birthing in a hospital, you might want to check on that policy.

Although DH is a chiropractor, you may be confusing us with a dif't ABS episode aired the previous week.

My DH is a chiro, but he became disabled after an accident

My first three births were just videotaped. I've since lost the video of my first.

I just had my son last week, and it was the first I have both photos and video. My SIL did most of both, and got a lot of great video earlier on in labor when I was still able to joke around a little. Although I haven't seen them yet, I know she also got a lot of video during transition and the birth, because whenever she would snap a photo my husband thought would upset me, she'd whisper "she'll thank me tomorrow".

Truthfully, I was so off in labor land that I didn't even notice who was photographic/taping what...but I did have a full house....husband, SIL, mom, sister, oldest daughter, friend, OB, nurse.

While I think I would generally be more comfortable having someone close to me taking the photos, I think that in most instances, a professional (birth) photographer would be pretty good at staying out of the way and not distracting mom.

This is what they told me at my son's birth.

The nurse's exact words were, "You're not allowed to film the birth. They stopped allowing it due to lawsuit reasons..."
Talk about a comforting thought...

ETA: One great photo that she took in labor was a close-up shot of DH holding my hand while I was having a contraction.
Those are REALLY great photo ideas!!!

I totally get that actually. While I'm sure I want photographs I'm going back and forth about the video. I guess it might be nice to have but I doubt I would watch it as I've never watched the video of DH and my wedding but I look at the photos all the time.

We were on "A Baby Story" (our homebirth aired last week).

It was a very good experience. The crew was a cameraman and a director (no lighting person). They were VERY professional, didn't say a word, didn't interrupt anything or get in the way. They just did their thing and stayed out of our way.

We are thrilled to have been on the show. We now have a wonderful keepsake to the birth!
I love that show! I think I've seen every episode! I know every birth story is different but somehow I feel more emotionally prepared seeing so many varying birth experiences. I wonder if I saw yours?

Really?? I'll have to check the policy at my hospital. Thanks for the heads up!

I wanted pictures of my first labor/birth but everyone kept forgetting to take out the camera and once I transferred to the hospital, they told us we couldn't video any time the OB was in the room.

With my second baby, our doulas took pictures and video. I love the pictures! The video didn't turn out because we had the lights really low and didn't think of that before hand so its pitch black until about 5 minutes after her birth when we realized we needed the light on the camera. But, you can hear the birth, which is still nice to have.

When we (hopefully) have another baby, I plan to have pictures and video again. They are invaluable to me.

I usually can't stand that show, but think I saw your episode. A baby girl?
What an awesome keepsake of the video you have!

Everyone was taking pics at my birth, but my sister took tons of pics and video. I wanted loads of pics of everything, because i knew I would'nt remember everything. Also, I wanted to see the birth from everyone elses perspective.
I am so glad I have every last one of those pics and the video. Priceless!

If you take pics and video and don't want it, no problem. If you don't and decide you want them later, big problem! You can never have a do over.

Nope, you didn't see ours. We had a boy!

Our story was that we were expecting #2, our faith, how DH was in an accident a few months before I was due - so I have a LOT to take care of, plus we moved b/c of the accident, plus our delightful 4y.o. ds (who is now 5), plus the homebirth.

I know I am biased, but I have to say that I think it was a REALLY good episode
