NOW's Acerola powder changed... tell them NO!

I got a new jar of Acerola powder as usual and noticed it was a little finer consistency. I think I have been having gastrointestinal issues off an on this week... and lo and behold I noticed they changed the formula to include ascorbic acid instead of having the vitamin C come only from acerola cherries!

I'm really irritated b/c it is so much cheaper and higher in C than other whole food C products.

If you use this, complain on their Contact us page:

I'm going to email WAPF right now since they recommend it for their formula recipe.

Oh that is maddening, and after you have started taking it too. I will say something for sure. I really like NOW products as they test for metals/impurities. I get spirulina from them.

I get camu camu and acerola from herbalcom.com for a really good price.

Just checked out the link and it also has maltodextrin in it too, and that is usually corn. Hope it isn't GMO, bad for the gut.

Dang, I just ordered a new thing of it. Thanks for sharing.

Having just ordered another 4 bottles of the stuff, I was upset to hear this, but I checked, and my new stuff is still the old formula. Hope they fix it before I run out of these...I love that stuff!

Ugh
So I just noticed this now that I'm needing to reorder.

I called Radiant Life and was told that they've been waiting for 2 mos. now to get a response from NOW foods.

Supposedly, it's possible that the ascorbic acid was always there and the manufacturer didn't know (ahem, OK).

We'll see.

These companies are really something.

I just noticed today that Mountain Rose Herb Farm has acerola powder (no other ingredients listed) so they might be worth checking into.

I haven't heard a response from my complaint either. I have to say this is the first time in my memory I have ever written a company and not received a response. Extremely disappointing.

I don't think it was always there. I actually didn't notice the ascorbic acid on the new label until I had been using my new bottle for a couple days and the consistency was weird... the powder was finer textured and it didn't dissolve as usual.

It's possible you still have the old version, if it doesn't say ascorbic acid on it, I think you are good. But who knows! when I get a chance I may call, they cannot ignore like an email!

While I think NOW definitely has issues with getting back to people, RLC doesn't have the best track record since the business was sold a year ago. The new owners do not have the same attention to customers as the original owners.

http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/learn/acerola.php

It contains tapioca maltodextrin, fyi. (WAY better than corn!!)

The type of acerola powder offered by Mountain Rose Herbs is spray dried into an organic maltodextrin carrier that is made from organic manioc root, and is standardized to have not less than 17.5% natural vitamin C.
