Friendly and/or clever chicken stories

I tried to Google for some, and came up empty. I'd love to hear your stories of friendly and/or clever chickens.

Today we went to a sheep festival and there was this hen there that was even friendlier than our cat. She was so cute, she enjoyed being petted, she sat on people's laps, and little kids were running around carrying her. She seemed to really like it, she would seek people out and sit next to them or on their laps, clucking. My DH wanted to bring her home. Surely there are other friendly chickens like that, tell me about them.

My neighbor's rhode island red, Laverne, hops up on her while she's in the hammock to get petted and sometimes steal some of whatever she's eating.

One of ours loves to be around our dogs. She very patiently hops around while they drop a tennis ball in front of her. The dogs would LOVE to play with the chicken.

A few years ago, I had 2 silkie hens. They both had eggs they were incubating in the chicken house. Well, one day I went in there to feed everybody, and I saw the cutest thing. The silkies had rolled their eggs together into one big nest. They were sitting right next to each other, and one had her wing on the other. It was so precious!

I'm a brand new chicken mama and am amazed at how bright these little creatures are. The rhode Island Reds are more friendly than the other breeds we have and my 9 year old has made friends with one who will go right up to him and climb up his arm and loves to be petted.

We are keeping them inside when it it too cold still (they are only 4 weeks) and my toddlers are not always so kind to them. The little kids like to hear all the squawking when they toss toys into the bin the chickens live in. I moved the bin up high to try to keep them protected, but now the chickens can't see much. The chicks hop up on the edge of the bin and watch, but always get down into the bin, not out to freedom. BUT, when we are moving them outside for the daytime, they hop right up on the edge and then out onto the grass. So much for bird brains...

ours want to come in the house. They come up and look in the sliding glass back door at us, and tap on the glass. My son gets a kick out of it. he taps back and they have interspecies communication. All seven chickens and both dogs come swarming up any time we go outside, it's really pretty funny! Our Rhode Island Reds are also more friendly than our other 3. It's amazing how individual their personalities are too.

Our Reds are so nosy~ they've started following us around when out on nice days~ theyy are only 6 weeks and 1 of our roos~ a white rock, searches out my oldest dd (9) and hops into her lap. She rocks him an he trills and closes his eyes like he's in absolute heaven. I expected them to still be as skittish as they have been the last few weeks but it seems in the last week or 2 they are becoming faaaar more personable and FUNNY! Every single 1 has a personality. Our most petite pullet jumps up and down when everyone else is checking something out like 'lemme see! lemme see! I can't see' .
