Help! My kid has a scary rash and it's freaking me out.

He's not vaxed and I'm pregnant with twins. It's only on his face, but it's really spread today. It started out as one little raised spot on his left cheek, and is now all over his face and one ear. I checked his belly, back, and tushie, and there's nothing there. I've googled and looked at pics and can't find anything that it might be.

They're raised and kind of pimply and he says they're itchy. He has a history of eczema, but never had anything like this before. We just gave him some Benedryl, so we'll see if that helps. He doesn't have a fever and feels great otherwise. He had chicken pox when he was very little. Any ideas what it can be?

It does look like an allergic reaction to me - but of course, it's hard to say and I'm just guessing.

Do check your Benadryl if you haven't to be sure it's not part of the recall.

Hope his rash clears up soon and/or you figure out the cause.

I just googled Fifths disease and got some photo's that look similar. But rashes are so hard to identify because some look very similar to others.

I know. My biggest concern is that it's contagious and could hurt the babies. Nicholas seems fine.

Fifth is kind of lacy looking. My kids and their cousins just all had it... FWIW none of them were itchy or had raised areas or pimples. It was this flat, lacy rash (little red circles with clear, flesh colored centers) and a low grade fever.

Just an update--

He woke up around 11:30, yelling in pain, saying it stung and that his leg hurt. I was worried that it was something systemic and called the doc and had the least helpful phone conversation in the history of phone conversations. All he would say is "Well, I can't diagnose him over the phone and you should take him to the ER if you're not comfortable." It was spreading on his arms, both ears, and neck, so I took him in.

4 hours later, they said it was a pretty bad bacterial infection/impetigo. They gave him two shots of antibiotics as well as an oral dose, some topical cream to take home, and a script for antibiotics. I'm going to get that filled and also pick up some vitamin C. Poor little guy!

Poor thing! I'm glad you took him in. Hope he feels better soon.

Do you think he should take pro-biotics as well since he's on the abx?

Thanks! He's looking much better today, except his ears, oddly enough. If I saw him on the street, I would cross to avoid him, LOL!

Oh dear poor lil thing! Glad he's on the mend. These things just happen sometimes but sounds like he was a champ through it!
