I'm a continuum-concept kind of mom. My kid fell down stairs a couple of times. OK it was short stairs - only 3, but really, they do survive. By 10 months we had taught her to go down the stairs backwards and she did it that way well into her walking years. I think you need to let this go and take care of your own family. Imagine how YOU would feel if someone had brought all of this Babywise stuff to you (with your second child!) trying to tell you you had done it all wrong with your first child.

Also, I'd like to post for all of the "other" Christians - Methodists, Lutherans, Presbyterians - etc. Most of them have never heard of "Babywise" and there is no particular emphasis on having kids obey the first time. I find that more prevalent in fundamentalist denominations. I don't think it's a majority attitude. Just wanted to stick up for everyone else.

I wouldn't say or do anything. One of my babies was sleeping through the night at 10 weeks (breasfed, and we definitely didn't do CIO) - now, my other 3 were a way different story - anyway, the stairs wouldn't bother me, b/c we didn't gate ours either and by 10 mos. DS was successfully going up and down them. No injuries, no falls - even if it worried my mom a lot. He is now 3 and could probably skip down them. ;-)

The flicking would bug me, but it's not CPS worthy, especially compared to what goes on in a lot of other homes.

basically, I would try not to worry or get upset about their parenting. I'm sure their kids will grow up safely.
