Angelic or Lethargic?

Eden has been sleeping for over 12 hours between nursing, and not eating as much as she used to when she does. Usually she's high needs, especially in the evening like lots of our babes, but it was a totally effortless evening. I had to make her eat to relieve my breasts.

DH and I had a long hot bath in the jacuzzi tub and watched a whole movie without pausing it.

What's wrong with this picture? Her temp is normal and she still has an appetite and her coloring looks perfect. Still, because of the contrast in temperament, I'm a little freaked out.

Did her 3 week growth spurt pass? Today she is 4 weeks old. Is this the calm before the next storm?

Bram did this! Scared me silly. I got engorged, and ended up with a plugged duct after he decided to wake up. He only did this for a day and a half then was back to himself, the growth spurt was my guess.

ETA: This was the calm after the storm. Not that it was stormy

I remember being warned with my first that I might think something was wrong with her because she would be fussy, etc and impossible for about 3 days during the growth spurt, and then she'd just sleep and sleep and sleep. They were right. I kept going to check on her, and she was okay. But it did scare me.

I would keep in the back of my mind to watch since she's acting so differently, but also be pretty confident that she's okay. Also remember that every day they are learning more and growing stronger, and being able to take in more of their worlds. She could be a different baby over and over, and totally not be what you expected, because her abilities have changed, seemingly overnight.

i wouldn't worry until there's another sign that there's something wrong. Likely there isn't. It's funny the mood swings babies can have, day to day...

Yes, this. Likely she has worn herself (and you) out making you make more milk for the last two or three days and now she's sleeping it off and you're left leaky and engorged.

BUT, if your instinct is that something's wrong, please don't dismiss it, okay?

this has happened to me a couple times too! i think it is generally right after a growth spurt, because for a few days she was on the boob nearly constantly, and then suddenly she was taking naps, REAL ones, and sleeping through the night and i was getting all sorts of things done. kind of freaked me out when i realized it was afternoon and she'd spent nearly the whole day just napping.

HA! So this is funny: Today Eden took 5-10 minute cat naps ONLY today for 12 hours straight and NEVER went into deep sleep until just now.

How's that for black and white?? Strangely, I like my baby somewhat fussy. There's something about a lusty cry that just screams health.
