what's in your wipe solution??

About to join the happy May baby club....I'm due any day now!!

Our DD was always cloth diapered and we'll be doing that with this one too. But we never washed our own wipes before. I made some cloth flannel wipes. Now I just need to make my own wash solution and put it in the spray bottle that I bought. Any ideas??

We just use water for our 2 month old. When water started not being enough for dd1 about one year old (extra smelly pee) we put a few drops of Dr Bronners and olive oil in the water.

I was thinking of making my own. Has anyone heard anything about Tea Tree Oil?

warm tap water always worked for me - I just wet the wipes as needed.

I keep one bottle with just water and another with water and 2-3 drops of tea tree oil. It's potent stuff though so don't put too much in. Lavender oil is another good disinfectant if you prefer that smell. I use just water or nothing at all most of the time but the TTO solution once in a while if he needs "refreshing." I'm lucky that my DS has skin that is not prone to dryness or rashes as it's possible that TTO would be too strong for sensitive skin. Also, DS doesn't mind cold or room temperature water so I can spray it right on his bum and he thinks it's hilarious! If the house is cold or I just can't bear the idea of spraying him directly, I warm the cloth in hot water first, then spray the cloth.

hmmm that is good to know. I wonder if I can find TTO easily here.... hmmmm.... I would not even know what it is called in German! I have been using warm tap water as well but sometimes I wish I had a natural soap/antiseptic sorta of thing like Dr. Tischners.

Plain water has been good enough so far (our babe is 6 months old). In the winter when it was cold in the house we kept a pump thermos with water at the changing place.

Like the OP, I'm just doing research because my LO isn't due to arrive until June, but I have found this website which lists a whole bunch of different "formulas" for wipe solution.

Warm tap water, or water from my water bottle if we aren't near a sink. I've never used anything else. If the babe gets really messy or stinky, I just give him a bath.

my mom bought us a wipe warmer, and my DH didn't like it for the disposable wipes (felt like it made them too wet), so I just wet some cloth wipes and put them in there. Just water. Seems to be working well. I still use disposables for big nasty poops, but the cloth for less messy (we're not CDing yet, but once we do, I'll probably start using cloth wipes for everything)

Water, a squirt of grape seed oil and a tiny bit of baby shampoo.

You could soak them in a mix of water, with a scoash (not sure if this is a real word--we use it to mean a bit) of baby oil, baby shampoo, & baby lotion. We do this to make disposable wipes.

we use Punkin Booty Bits ... just melt a "bit" in 2 cups hots water, then put it in a spray bottle ... made w/ natural and essential oils ... water alone was not enough for my ds and water plus baby shampoo or wash made him rashy

We use just water. Never needed anything more than that for our 7 mo. Like a pp said - if it's particularly nasty, we just give him a bath (or run his butt under the faucet).

I use a wipes warmer and fill it with a cup or so of water, a splash of witch hazel and 2 drops of Kissaluv's Diaper Lotion Potion. It smells nice and works great and I love making a batch of wipes and then having them all ready to go in the warmer. I may use TTO when I run out of the potion though since it costs a bit and I don't want to pay shipping just for that (I bought it with the dipes originally).

Water with a few drops of tea tree oil.

I had a bottle of Kissaluv's Diaper Lotion Potion too & really liked it. To save money, I'm mixing my own using some of the same ingredients: water, witch hazel, tea tree oil, jojoba oil, lavender essential oil. After a wet-only diaper, I usually just use water though.

Congrats preggymeaggy on your new arrival!!

i use about a tablespoon of coconut oil
a squirt of bronner's baby soap
and a cup of boiling water

let it cool and add to a spray bottle.

for our wipes we cut up an old flannel sheet and zig zagged the edges. works great.
