Im still mastering the ratio of our solution (drops of Dr browner's baby soap + Burts bee mama bee oil which is a leftover from pregnancy) Im checking this thread to choose another oil

Wanna take the chance to share the solution we found for our cloth wipes. Because I hang dry my clothes (super hot dry Apt In winter and fresh backyard In Summer) I realized that drying the wipes than later spraying them wet was a waste of time and why not say resources (water or energy if using a dryer)

We wash twice or more a week so there is no problem In keeping the wipes wet. We throw them from washer Into baby's tub then pour 1&1/2 cup of the solution .... shake, swirl, squeeze, swirl, squeeze, mix well... And bam! Into a reused box of conventional wipes.

So much faster than spraying!

Water.

Warm water in a pump thermos! He's almost 11 months and it has worked wonderfully.

I love Lusa Organics wipe solution. Its a bit pricy but it lasts forever. If I don't have that, tap water has always worked just fine. California Baby makes a nice butt spray, too. When DS would get a little irritated that really worked wonders on his red bum!

We used water for a while, until we couldn't leave him on the changing table while we ran to the bathroom to wet with warm water. I now use a solution of about 1 1/2c - 2c water, a squeeze of Burts Bees apricot oil (maybe 1T?), the same of aloe vera gel, 3-4 drops of tea tree oil, and a good squeeze of bath wash (also burts bees, love the smell). Mix that up and pour over a container full of folded flannel squares (ripped down from a couple yards at fabric store).

Great idea, dancingflower! It never occurred to me to not dry the wipes! Duh! We could totally just take them out of the washer and put them right in the wipes container.

I have a small bottle of olive oil in the baby's room to which have added a couple of drops of tea tree oil. (Lauren31, in German it's called Teebaumsöl. Here's a link to an essential oil guide in German.)

To make wipes solution, I dissolve about 1 tsp. of organic lavender baby wash in 1 cup of warm tap water in an old used wipes container. Then I add about 1 tsp of the olive oil/TTO, mix well, and just throw a handful of wipes in to soak. The TTO is a good disinfectant to keep wipes from getting yucky, since the wipes are sitting in water for a day or two, but it's dilute enough in the olive oil that it doesn't irritate DD's skin. And there's lavender in the baby wash, too, which is another disinfectant.

For wipes, we just use bits of fleece left over from those fleece tied blankets everybody makes. (Our family crafters give them to us.) They don't soak up much water, but they're nice and soft, and small enough to fit in the box. If I had my druthers, I'd use little baby washcloths - they're wetter - but we only have a few, and I'm not about to go buy washcloths just for this purpose.

Comtessa, I love that idea of keeping the wipes wet out of the wash! I can never quite get them wet enough with just a squirt bottle and I hate having to run them under the faucet before I use them because then I get them too wet sometimes.

As for a wipe solution, I'm going to go buy one. Water soaked wipes bothers his bum. I tried mixing olive oil and witch hazel, but the olive oil just globs up and it actually seems cheaper to buy a premade one than going out to buy EO's and an oil that doesn't glob up. I don't know what I'm going to get yet, I have to go look at the diaper store near by and see what they sell. It's between Pirates booty, Kissaluvs Diaper Potion, and California Baby (that's always at Target!).

I don't like having wipes soaked in a solution before hand because my son will get into the cabinet that has the wipes and will dump them on the floor. With just damp wipes I don't have to worry about oil stains or getting a soaked carpet.

Blueone, have you tried adding some gentle baby wash to the mix? Any kind of oil is going to need some sort of an emulsifier in order to not "glob up" in water. There are other emulsifiers (honey works, I think), but a dab of baby soap really works great.

Olive oil + a drop of witch hazel + a bit of baby wash in water would likely work fine, and you wouldn't have to invest in the expensive stuff. As for tea tree oil, if you want to get it, it's really not terribly expensive - one of the cheaper oils. You can find it online (I love love love Kobashi EO's, they're the best I've found).

We just use water. We put a changing pad from Ikea on the bathroom counter and that is our changing center. We just wet the wipe as needed with the faucet.

we just use water too

We have tea tree oil, but I don't want to put that in his wipe solution because it seems to not help an irritated bottom at all. If anything, it almost makes it worse.

I was thinking more of other EO's like lavender or Chamomile and Aloe Vera that can be expensive. I was looking at those one time and all of those equal the cost of a solution that has that and others in it.

I'll keep it in mind to add soap, I hadn't done that so that would explain it!

same here-I make it myself now with the ingredients, except I use olive oil rather than jojoba because that is what I have in the house Works great. I'm sure water would be just fine too though-the only reason I recreated the Kissaluv's (which I got as a gift) was because I had all the ingredients already! With dd (I only used cloth sometimes) I just used water.

I'm another one who used the Kissaluvs solution, but now make it myself. I loved the Kissaluvs, but it was a pain to order and it got a bit pricey.I've been using apricot oil (not Burt's Bees as that can get pricey), witch hazel, TTO, lavender and water. I really like the apricot oil instead of jojoba, it makes the solution smell a lot milder. It did cost more initially to buy everything, but in the long run it has definitely been cheaper and easier than continuing to order the Kissaluvs.
