Right, 'done away with'. It's what Kate said but rephrased.

OP I have known some very old-school Baptists who believed women shouldn't lead men in prayer and didn't believe speaking in tongues etc. was for today. Don't know if it's the same in Texas, but there are tons of different versions of Baptists here (Georgia) that run the gamut from mainstream right wing to very conservative patriarchal to nearly charismatic.
That's what I was thinking. There are so many different denominations out there and add onto that those who go with their own opinion of things.

I grew up in Churches of Christ (or churches of Christ as they like to not capitalize it) and I'm 95% sure from what you said that it is Church of Christ. Churches of Christ very often teach that a woman should not pray in the presence of a man. But the dead give away is the view of the Holy Spirit no longer being active. Church of Christ theology on the Holy Spirit is so vague and uncomfortable with the Holy Spirit that some people have seen Churches of Christ as being non-Trinitarian. Now I would say most (though certainly not all) Church of Christ members are Trinitarian if they were forced to think about it and come to a conclusion. But there is a profound discomfort and lack of fleshing out a real theology on the Trinity. And some Bible passages are used as evidence that the Holy Spirit was to stop working though people once the Bible was completed.

If I had to take a wild guess on what they were discussing I would say First Corinthians.

Def. not; we believe in ongoing revelation even in this day, gifts of the Spirit to all, and women regularly pray in public and private arenas.
