Arrowsmith at home? (Learning differences)

I dont know if there's anything like what i'm looking for, but i was just looking at some websites for Arrowsmith Schools. Basically they teach the kids how to overcome learning differences. And apparently, the approach they use is long-lasting.

It looks like this is a very specific (and very expensive) program, but i'm wondering if there's anything like it for kids to use at home?

The Arrowsmith School, (http://www.arrowsmithschool.org/) which Dr. Doidge wrote about in chapter 2, is an extraordinary school, with branches in Canada and the U.S. The school, now with almost 30 years of experience, uses neuroplasticity to treat and often cure a large range of the commonest learning disorders, both verbal and nonverbal. Barbara Arrowsmith is the pioneer, par excellence, in brain-based assessment of learning problems (assessments that really show which brain function needs work) and brain exercises for these problems. While most of the school’s program has to be done at one of the school sites, they will be putting some of their testing and brain exercises online soon, so it will be more widely available, an exciting development.

We have an Arrowsmith school in my town, and every single parent I know of who has shelled out the $$$ has been overwhelmingly happy with the results. Of course, many of them have had to remortgage their houses to do so , but if it's going online at a more affordable rate, then great.

The research seems to be sound. If my child were struggling with severe LD, I'd definitely look into it.

ETA: Sorry, I didn't really answer your question about affordable possibilities. I haven't heard of them, and I hope other posters have leads for you! Right now I'm looking at getting ds into neurofeedback for his AD/HD, but I'm not sure if it is of any benefit to kids with LD alone.

Neurofeedback is definitely something else on my list of things to check out. One of the other mama's in my autism support group did neurofeedback with her dd and found it to be somewhat beneficial.


DS is 2E, it would be amazing for him if we could find a way for him to overcome his LD's altogether. i'm happy to hear of good results with the arrowsmith programs. it is sooo expensive though!!!
