Baby barely nurses while we're out.

We have a VERY distractable baby. If we are out basically he doesn't eat. I have tried everything I can think of to help him, even going to the car for example, but it's the same. I can get him to nurse for a few seconds a few times but he keeps pulling off, starts trying to sit up, play with stuff, etc before he gets upset and starts to cry. It's very frustrating, I read that supply could be compromised because of this and I worry if we are out for too long or for too many days in a row and so I just don't do some things because of this. DS just turned 7 mos. Am I being too paranoid? How long does it take for one's supply to change or go down? How do you mama's of distractable babies handle this? Has anyone had their supply go down? Stories? Advice? Please!

Both of my older two were exactly like that. My now 5.5 month old is starting to. It is aggrevating, but I think they would usually make up for it at night. I have never had supply issues, so am not concerned. I assume that is why they have gotten so fat in the first 6 months.

If I was going to be out for a long time, especially with the hot weather, I'd make sure to have a sippy of water. My oldest could go all day w/o nursing between 8-12 months and did not eat solids. He was still above the 95% at 1yr, and went on to nurse til 25months.

At 7 months, your supply is very well established, so I wouldn't worry at all about the occasional or even frequent longer stretch between feedings, unless you are prone to plugged ducts. Your supply will adjust.
