Did you labor/birth in bed? - Page 3

I didn't plan to or actually labor in bed, but I'm still happy I made up my bed! The postpartum sweats and discharge made the top layer of sheet pretty icky and it was so nice to be able to just pull off those sheets and have it be clean underneath. And the plastic sheet (we bought a fitted, cheap one) was nice to re-use to protect our mattress from the incredible leaking breasts...

I didn't anticipate giving birth in bed, but there was noooo way I could even sit up unsupported by the time I was 8 or 9 cm dilated. I was encouraged to stand up somewhere around that time and just couldn't... you never know what will happen until it does!

I had my first 2 contractions in bed. then it hurt to stay there so I got up and didn't go back until the birth was over and it was time to sleep.

I made up my bed even though I never birthed in it (birthed in the tub). For two of my four home births I did take a few naps/periods of rest on the bed. For the other two I didn't use the bed at all until afterward.

I think it's worth putting the protection under the sheets for the first few days postpartum anyway.

I did all my pushing and the actual birth on our bed. I didn't make it up beforehand, but I did have a plastic shower curtian and an old sheet ready, and the MW made the bed up for me. She also put some chuck pads out when I actually birthed, which was good because it would have been a HUGE mess. I always feel best in my bed when in pain/sick, so I'll probobly end up there agian.

My homebirth I spent very little time in bed but did birth in it. I was in the tub for most of my labor (it was less than 5 hrs) and got out when my midwives arrived. They checked me immediately and I was 9 cm, water broke on it's own ALL OVER THE BED - thankfully there was a waterproof sheet on- and I birthed a minute later. So about the last 5 mins was in the bed, my bathroom was small and cramped and I was getting no relief from the water at that point and was panicking to try something different, had no idea I was ready to birth! It was nice and easy clean up, my SIL and sister stripped the bed and under the waterproof sheet was another set of sheets clean and dry and ready for me to get into. No fuss, no mess. Plus you never know if your labor will start by your water breaking in your bed in the middle of the night while in bed. I actually keep a waterproof sheet on my mattress for the first few weeks pp, or at least a folded towel under my spot because of all the leaking going on from bleeding and breastfeeding.
