Post a photo of your sewing box and tell me about it so I can bask in your glorious ideas. Right now, mine is a round tin with a pincushion sticky velcroed in the middle

I don't really have a "sewing box".
I have a canvas tote, which is really a tool bag purchased at Harbor Freight for $9.99. It has many different sized pockets all the way around the outside. Works like a charm for classes and such! It can be decorated for more pizzaz.
I also have another tool bag from Home Depot. When I purchased it, it came in a set with another bigger tool bag and was only $10.99 plus tax total (for both). I gave my dad the bigger bag since he is an electrician. I totally decorated this one for scrapbooking purposes and recently got an entire set of new scrapbooking holders that clash with the red/black bag, so I repurposed it to the sewing stuff at home. It sits on my sewing table with various items I like handy in it.
For my straight pins, I use a magnetic square (from Jo-Anns on sale) and put that into a pretty, large Brighton tin (from a gift my friend who works at Brighton gave me). It sits on a small bookcase I had at the end of the sewing table. (Technically, this table is our "project" table and my machines get cleared off for big projects, but I have two open spaces for smaller projects all the time.)

Picture of the jewelry box I found at Goodwill to use as a sewing box. I need to add pouches or straps to the side lids so I can put stuff in there. I also need to add a latch for the middle lid so I can put a handle on it to carry the box around.

I don't have pics, but I use a really old metal tackle box my mom gave me that she used to use as a sewing box. It's nice because it has 3 trays that are divided up that I can put smaller things in, and there's enough room in the bottom that I can fit my scissors, magnetic pin cushion, and other various things. It's the perfect size for what I need it for.
