Are you wondering if NAET works?

A local acquaintance says her son isn't allergic anymore thanks to the method at www.naet.com. As in, he tested as allergic, they did the treatment, he didn't show the same behavioral reactions anymore, they went back a week later and he no longer tested as allergic.

His mom has also been doing the treatments and says she notices significant improvement as well.

Obviously, I don't have research or even personal experience, but I thought this one anecdote made it worth sharing for people who may have been wondering about it.

He tested allergic, as in IgE ("true") allergic? Or was it a food intolerance (IgG)?

I'm curious, because everyone I've seen talk about it used it for food intolarances. I would love to know if someone was cured from an anaphylactic allergy.

funny this should come up now, and funny that two of you are also in seattle, because i just saw an add for this in seattle woman.
he is an acupuncturist using this technique and he specifically says he can eliminate anaphylactic allergies. i spoke with my ND about taking my dd and she said she thought it was more important for us to try someone who has studied pediatric acupuncture. but now i'm wondering.

I'm wondering about this too. Did the person have blood allergy testing, or just muscle testing, or what?

We have a chiro/accupuncture person here who has a very good reputation and does the NAET and I asked her about my son's peanut allergy and she said that she has had success with that in terms of reducing how allergic they are, like it decreased over time, but I don't recall if she said it was totally eliminated. Even to decrease it some would be good in my book, just to be safer. Of course, still avoiding it, but for those times when you come into a contact with it in the world, like the person letting their child eat trail mix with peanuts in it and putting their hands all over a hands-on museum exhibit, right under the sign that says "No Food or Drink Allowed in this area".

We did NAET for 6 mos with dd1 when she was three--(and this was a friend who wasn't charging us--just wanted to help dd) he kept saying she was cleared and I'd cautiously trial the gluten only to get the same horrid reactions as ever...
So: I think it CAN work, but it may depend on the severity of the intolerances and or how good the practitioner is. No energy healing has ever worked for us, tho. Wish it would...glad it did for your friend.

Honestly, I'm a bit skeptical--how do they know it's permanently cleared? what if it's just not noticeable anymore or the symptoms have changed lately? (and the damage is continuing under the surface?)

The naturopath that I saw 2 years ago (who didn't help me) practiced NAET. And she said that she cleared a child completely of a peanut ALLERGY. As in, didn't show at all anymore on allergy tests. My brother went to her and tested (muscle) as lactose intolerance, took Lactaid and/or avoided milk for about 2 years, and then had NAET type thing done on him (like NAET, but with some electrical stimulus) and now can eat anything. I'm still skeptical.

Unfortunately it didn't work completely for us. We had about 8 treatments done to my son when he was between 6-9 months old. The first one, body brain communication, helped. DS went from pooping every time he nursed to 1-2 times a day, within a day of the treatment. It didn't clear his milk or cat allergies or his dairy or rice intolerances. It may have helped him tolerate other foods that we treated for though. I wouldn't say it was a waste of time or money but since it wasn't clearing his allergies and was so expensive, we stopped going.

It doesn't have to be eating it right there...they could have just come from the cafeteria or from outside where they were eating it...with it still on their hands I would just expect it to be possibly anywhere.

We did NAET with my DS and it did absolutely nothing for us unfortunately. And, some of the foods that he muscle tested negative for he had his worst reactions with when we trialed them. I personally felt like I threw away a bunch of money.

That said, I have heard several people on these boards say they had great success with it. So, perhaps it does depend on the severity of your symptoms, etc. Who knows!!

It'd be fascinating to know the common factors between the people it does work for and the common factors of those whom it doesn't work for. And the differences between the groups.

It'd probably help pinpoint some causes of allergies which would lead to better prevention and treatments.

Like how some people can have a shot once a year and be fine with hay fever and that does nothing for other people.

We are bringing 10 month old dd to try NAET this weekend. I really hope it works for her.

She was anaphylactic to peanuts her entire life up until a few months ago and she now eats peanuts without any problem. This seems unreal to me and really does sound amazing! She had tried NAET with a different practioner, but without success, so I think who you go to does play a big role. Here is the website for the doctor she's seeing now; he is located in Corvallis, Oregon. It's quite a long haul for us to get there, and expensive (to get there, his rates actually seemed pretty reasonable), so I'm not sure yet if will do it or not, but it's still very interesting to me. His process does involve a computer and some kind of electricity (not shocks by any means, but I'm not sure exactly how to describe it here). I also called their clinic and was able to talk to him, which is always a huge plus for me. Often, it seems like the receptionist will just tell me they can make my son better and leave it at that. When in reality, they probably can't....(okay, I'm kinda a pessimist when it comes to this, sorry)...but, anyway, I'd love to hear any other experiences from people who've tried NAET or this doctor. We are always searching for something

So I don't know what to make of this. Dd has had 4 NAET treatments. She used to get a rash on her bum with a very small amount of salmon, so we treated this last weekend. I tested it the next day with a small amount of salmon and nothing happened. So I got bolder and tried more. She was initially fine, but later developed a rash all over her belly and nothing on her bum. How would you interpret this? It changed things around? We are going to ask the practitioner about this today and see what she says.

We tried the doctor you are referring to. They were very nice but after going for quite a while we stopped because we saw no improvement in my son's severe eczema.
