if it was donted by a man?

a mans posted on a breastfeeding forum that he has a condition that causes him to lactate and he can pump 1300ml per day which he is now donating to a milk bank (obviously this on the internet so amy or may not be true...

made me wonder if you would be happy having your dc take milk from a man??

No

If he is donating to a milk bank, then it is going through their sterilization process.. so yeah, if I was using a milk bank product, I would accept it...

If I were doing a private milk share deal, then no. It kind of feels phony/scamish to me and there are people out there that would intend harm to a baby, and even if his heart is in the right place to help feed an infant, I would always feel a bit nervous that maybe there was more to the story than I was getting, kwim?

Did you do research to confirm that such a condition exists? Cuz thats what im about to do.

OK, its possible.

From a milk bank? I don't care who the milk is from.
Privately arranged, no.

I personally would only feel comfortable taking donated BM from someone that I know personally and knowing that they had a clean bill of health.

Yes men can produce milk. Would I from a milk bank, yes. From private no, but then again I would not get any breastmilk from craigslist.

I would take private notions from people I knew but not a stranger on craigslist. Women can be just as harmful, deceptive, et for a buck.

I don't necessarily buy that a milk bank is taking it.

I'm gonna go with no.

I think the guy is lying. This stuff just doesn't add up.

The milk bank here won't take your milk if your more than a year post-partum. I can't imagine them taking it from someone who was never pregnant at all.

A quick look at the wikipedia page on male lactation indicates that it's often related to xenoestrogens. Or anti-psychotic medication. No milk bank is going to touch that stuff.

I feel quite confidant that he's lying, and that's before we get to the detail about his killer supply.

I think he's a fetishist getting a thrill, and I don't think anything he's said is true.

I would take privately donated milk from an FTM transsexual, or from another woman, but not from this guy.

i am not even sure if there was a second question but the answer would be no anyway.

Another reason a man might have milk is from high prolactin levels caused by a pituitary tumor. Men are more likely than women to have large tumors that cause some pretty icky side effects (headaches and possibly going blind!) and pumping could raise levels/increase tumor size. That would be, uh, not too bright!

This condition is fresh on my mind 'cause I'm dealing with it right now!

If it's a medical condition I can't imagine a guy wanting to make it worse for any reason, and if not medical, he's on steroids or something!

So... no. I wouldn't touch it!

Nope.

But you made me remember that I need to find someone to donate to after the twins are born.

Also, no, I wouldn't.

As big of a supporter as I am of donating milk (to banks or privately and if privately, only when proof is available that the one donating is clean), I'd have to say no. I wish I could pinpoint why but even with this being possible, something in me is screaming NO.

No, for all the reasons stated above. And I would be absolutely furious if I found out that a milk bank was giving it to me without my knowledge.

no
