The most common cause of a man lactating is the use of very strong antipsychotic medications, which definitely show up in the milk, so no, I wouldn't use that milk. To be honest though, seeing that on the internet really sounds more like a troll than anything else.

Why would a man who was lactating want to pump, that is kinda creepy. Also, according to the milk bank rule in texas, you must have given birth w/in the last year to donate. I had to stop donating w/ DS once we were past the 1 yr mark.

i *think* the underlying no's are from the ewww factor. honestly, i wish my dh could lactate so that i could catch a break i'd have no issue taking the milk from a PERSON i knew or from a reputable milk bank.

so, let's forget for a moment that the other parts of the story were told. let's pretend the op said:

"would you feed your baby breastmilk donated by a man?"

it's okay to have the eww factor. i know i did when i first found out that men CAN lactate. hell, when i first saw my mom bf my little sister ( i was 9 at the time) i thought ewww. but, i realize now that we get our milk in the fridge from cow boobs. we just don't nurse on them so, i'm sorta over the eww thing lol!

No. If i was using a milk bank and he'd passed their screenings (and therefore might be a FTM who happened to have had a baby in the last year but would still have a right to call themselves male - either i trust the bank or i don't) i would accept it. But i'd never take it from an individual. Not no how, not no way.

I think the "lactating man" is full of sh--. I mean, he may be lactating (pituitary tumor, meds, etc), but I SINCERELY doubt he's pumping and getting over a liter a day. That's just not true.

Also, even if it was true, I would wonder about the composition of the milk- how would the differing hormones and differing glandular breast tissue affect the milk? I mean, let's say he is lactating, what if there was almost no calories or fat in it, iykwim?

So, I'm going with no.

There are many recorded instances of men lactating and even providing an infant with nutrition but I don't think I would believe someone was providing a milk bank with breastmilk.

I would not accept milk donated by a man. I would be concerned about hormone supplements or other medications.

This is what first came to my mind (after the ewww factor of course). I don't think I would accept breastmilk from a man whether I knew him personally or not until I saw some hardcore research showing that milk produced by a man is equally as healthy as a woman's milk. For a man to be producing milk, there's something WRONG with him physically, so who knows what the composition of the milk would be, ya know? Just my .02!

I would never drink milk from a bull that was somehow lactating due to a rare medical condition. Why would anyone consider giving the human equivalent to an unassuming infant? The point is to provide the baby with the most natural nutritious food possible, and milk from a male is NOT natural.

Probably a moot point though, I think he's a troll. No milk bank is going to take that.
