is it possible to get a mac frugally? - Page 2

I would buy any computer-related items from Craigslist. The only reason, though, is because my DH is a geek and would be able to check the item out and know if it was in good shape or not and if it met our needs or not. Without his expertise, I wouldn't go that route for an item in this price range.

Although I've seen it reported here and other places about people getting items that worked really well but turns out they were stolen. Especially Macs, they are big ticket items. Police take the computer and person is out the money. I wont buy anything without a receipt of purchase.

Thanks! I didn't qualify my answer for all the possibilities. I stayed specific to the fact that the OP probably doesn't have enough expertise to be buying from CL (IMO).

Can any just tell me what I would want as a minimum? Here are two computers that are inexpensive, but I can't tell if they have enough of anything or not. My needs are very basic. Email, photos, and etsy.

I guess I'm not sure if I should spend more and get something newer because it will last more years or go cheap and get replacements more often.

I graciously and copiously thank you!
I'll ask my brother. He worked for Apple for 9 years up until last April. I'm viewing this on my iMac I bought with his personal employee discount (20% I think) in 2000. The hard drive finally went last August. Fortunately, my brother (who was a product tester for Apple) was able to retrieve about 98% of my information!! Anyway, other than that, I haven't spent anything on my Mac in the 10 years I've owned it. There is no doubt I'd buy another.
