I just saw an ad in a magazine for Gardasil all about how it can protect girls and boys from HPV. They're using the "one less" line for that too. I wasn't aware that it had been approved for use in boys. When did that happen?

Looks like it was approved in October of 2009. What a joke. Only not so funny.

ETA: Notice it's not labeled the "cervical cancer vaccine" here. I wonder how they will change the gardasil ads now, they can't focus so much on cervical cancer because it will make parents of boys say "He doesn't have a cervix, he doesn't need it."

The idea behind vaxing the boys is still for cervical health. It protects against several strains of HPV that often cause cervical cancer in women. They get this HPV through sexual contact. So the more male partners who are not carrying those strains, the fewer women who will be infected.

Listipton- make sure you Thumbs Down those ad's! I ALWAYS give the thumbs down on the HPV commercials- not because I don't agree with HPV awarness- but because the ad's are paid for by the Vacciene Manufacturer!
I am appaled that they think that this Obviously dangerous vacciene should be used in both Girls & Boys!

I've also seen ads (like on Hulu) that focus on the Genital Warts aspect of HPV for boys.

Doesn't this vax only protect against 4 strains of HPV? And aren't there many, many more strains that can cause genital warts? If so, it's kind of misleading of them to make this plug for the vax. I'd even venture to call it false advertising.

It was even more misleading calling it a cervical cancer vaccine, but that didn't stop them from doing just that

Maybe they'll stop playing them for me if I thumb the ads down. One can hope.
