I'm stumped - can y'all help

Hi mamas,

This is my first pregnancy while nursing.

So, does nursing while pregnant affect the level of m/s you get? In all my other pregnancies, I was sooooo sick (hypermesis with one) from 5w until 18-20w and this one is mild and I'm 7w. Now, I know that all pregnancies are different, but it concerns me when I've been pregnant 3 times and they've been identical, but this is totally different. So, I'm hoping it has something to do with nursing and I'm not going to end up m/c again.

My breasts are sore, but nothing like in previous pregnancies. I attributed this to nursing, since it's been like this from the beginning. I have intermittent nausea that's mild to moderate with no throwing up. I am having early BHs again. I do get dizzy easy and am a bit more tired, but just a little. With my others, I was lucky to get through the day without falling asleep. I have heightened smell and taste. Oh, and I did the no-no and took another pregnancy test to compare to ones previous and it seemed quite lighter. I know, I know, smack me . Everything is so mild this time that I can't help but think something is wrong. I don't have my first appointment until the 18th (10w). I did rent a doppler, since I got my dd's HB at 8w. Hopefully, I'll get that this week and get some reassurance. I typically have an u/s by now.

I don't have any gut feelings to go on. It would be dandy to have a pregnancy without extreme sickness, but it sure feels more reassuring to throw up all the time . Sick, I know.

I am currently pregnant for the second time and still nursing my DS. During my first pregnancy, I had terrible hyperemesis and ended up losing 15 lbs from my at the time very thin frame. It was terrible and when I found out I was pregnant again, the excitement was overshadowed by serious dread that I'd start throwing up and not stop pretty soon.

On wednesday, I'll be 12 weeks and I haven't thrown up a single time yet! I've felt nauseated and had food aversions and cravings and had a hard time eating enough BUT I haven't thrown up and I've been able to actually DO things this time unlike last time. I think it is because of nursing (There HAS to be an upside to nursing through pregnancy because parts of it can really suck )

This seems to be the case with me so far, too. With DD#1 i had HG (lost roughly 15 lbs- was on zofran, etc. for months) starting at about week 9. This time around, I'm nursing my 8 mo, and I've only thrown up once. Granted, I still have bad nausea, but not the 4-5 times-a-day-throwing-up kind. Also, it's a little early, but this just feels different. HG came on hard and fast for me- totally fine one day, felt like death warmed over the next. The nausea has been much, much milder (and more gentle in coming on) than before.

My ONE pregnancy where I had nothing but queasiness for a few weeks was a) very close to the previous pregnancy (7 months) and b) I was still nursing a lot. I've gotten pregnant while nursing a few more times but they were always toddlers who weren't nursing all that much and I ended up with hyperemesis by 6 weeks.

i am nearly 21 weeks with #3 - this is the 2nd pregnancy i've nursed through .. i felt really nauseas this pregnancy the worst was 8-10 weeks and i was nearly fine by 11-12 weeks.. no throwing up (well, 2 or 3 times maybe) .. the last 2 pregnancies i threw up a lot, and was the worst from 14-16 weeks... the pregnancy i did not nurse through was the worst with the throwing up.. the last one i thought was better cause it was a boy, and this one is another girl (like the first) and is the best so far... my breasts have also done different things each time.. the last two times they grew right away, this time, they shrunk until about 18 weeks and then started plumping back up..

This is my 3rd pg while also breastfeeding. I lost my milk each time at four months.

This is the first pg (of 8: 4 live births and one on the way) I've had with m/s and the m/s finished at ten weeks, after I'd lost 12lbs.

My nausea is about the same with this pregnancy (nursing) as my first pregnancy. It might even be slightly worse... I know that it feels like it's lasting longer. I've lost less weight this time, but I took Zofran for a few months which I didn't do last time.

I think mine has been slightly less bad this time around, and I am nursing. I'm also starting to feel a little better already, at 10 weeks--last time I felt awful until nearly 20 weeks.

This is my fourth pregnancy as well and the only one I've nursed through (I'm 13 weeks).

I'd say my experiences are much like the OP's. I definitely didn't have the same level of sickness that I did with the other three. My youngest is 3 and a half and he hardly nurses during the day but at night he is a champion nurser. I've noticed that I feel fine while I'm in bed, pretty fine when I get up and then get increasingly yucky throughout the day. So, make of that what you will, but I think it could be the marathon night nursing sessions that are helping me feel better at night and in the morning!

I also was quite worried because I wasn't as sick, but I've had an U/S and baby is fine so far.

Bottom line, for me, nursing definitely seems to be helping with the m/s!
