Local news story: benefits of using donated breastmilk

One of our local stations just ran a commercial for a story coming up on their 7pm newscast. I went to their web site and found this:

http://durhamcounty.mync.com/site/du...difficulties-/

I see some pros and some cons to this story...what do you think?

Definately accurate that donor pasteurized milk is preferable to formula.

The article makes low milk supply seem common and doesn't mention any of the possible reasons for an externally caused low milk supply (much more common IME) vs a true low milk supply (caused by something in the mother, not caused by external factors), however I don't think that this fits w/in the scope of the article.

I do think the tone of the article is a step in the right direction though. One day society will get it that "hey, bm really is better than formula", maybe after a million of these kinds of stories are reported in the news.

Overall I am glad to see the article. I wish more people knew or acknowledged that milk can be donated between two parties directly. But I also understand why there aren't news stories about that, as there is a lot of trust involved. And the biggie is, making sure the person donating is most likely clean/healthy, which involves recent testing via their doctor and such.

This is why I won't donate to a milk bank. I understand they have a lot of costs involved, but $3.50+ an ounce is out of the question for a lot of parents.
