Small celebration today...I am now officially to pre-Caleb weight. I still have 29 pounds to go to my goal, so you don't have to hate me too much!

-Naps: Aengus likes to mainly cat-nap, and sleep long stretches at night, but lately I've been getting him to take a 2-2.5 hour nap in the late afternoon. He's on no schedule yet, it seems.

-Cloth Diapers: I green acre designs pockets, and DH prefers fuzzi bunz. We thought we'd be more of a fitted or prefold family, but pockets seem to make all 3 of us happiest.

-Talking: he is jabbering pretty much anytime he's awake. The "oh"s and "ooh"s are my favorite. He's starting to squeal in delight now, too. He and I have little conversations throughout the day where he'll reply to me--sooo sweet!

-Weight: he's 11 weeks and over 13lbs according to my bathroom scale. In 3-6 months clothes and 23.5 inches. I feel like he's so small, but DH says that's a bigger weight for a baby. Especially one that was 6.5lbs at lowest weight.

Me: I am 5lbs below pp weight, but I think that has a lot to do with BF + carrying around a super-chunky baby. My breasts are even-ing out, thank goodness. I'm starting to build up a freezer supply just in case (travel, medications, etc) with 1 pump session a day or every other day. I will probably use it for "popsicles" when he starts teething as well.

hi, wow it has been so long since I logged into this site. I do lurk a lot, but for some reason actually logging in and posting has been too much work... sorry

Happy Mothers Day to everyone!

I can't believe it has been 11 weeks already. I'm so sad to go back to work after next week. I knew I would be. I know it will get better (I do really love the work I do) but right now the thought of it really makes me sad.

J was suppose to go to daycare at my work but that didn't work out so I won't get to visit him at lunch time to nurse like I had planned. My MIL is moving out here for a month and then DH's cousin is coming until August because that is when we will get a spot at the new daycare we selected. So I guess it should be a little less difficult for me to leave him since I know he will be with family - still tough though.

re: skinny babies - I totally know what you mean. My friend has a baby that is 1 week older and she is soooooo much bigger than J. He might be longer, but I'm not quite sure. I had been thinking he was getting so big and then I hung out with my friend and her baby and left wondering if he is getting enough to eat. I'm over that feeling now, he's happy and healthy and growing at his own pace. His skinny look - especially in the face - makes him look like such a handsome little man.

I forgot (or never knew) that our babies were born on the same day!

naps - Jack is the same - although this past week I have really been watching the clock to try to figure out when he sleeps so I can give some sort of direction to MIL when she starts to care for him while I go back to work.

It seems he does have a pattern. From wake up time until about 2pm he gets tired every 2 hours but if I'm not able to get him to sleep in that time frame that he will really really fight sleep - prior to the 2 hour mark he will go to sleep w/out any fussing if I lay him down somewhere comfy and lightly wrap him up. He only sleeps for about 20-35 min. stretches.

At about 4 he will take a nap that is at least 1 hour long, sometimes even 2 hours. Then seems to want to stay up for the rest of the night until about 10. Then he usually sleeps until 5am. So I guess he regulated himself - yay.
It's funny I never really noticed a pattern until I had to start watching it closely.

cloth diapers - I love GMD prefolds and covers. I use those so that I can save the "fancy" diapers for DH. I bought lots of pockets, both FB and BG for daycare when I though he was going to the work center. I never could get the FBs to work. I thought it was b/c of the snaps since DS seems kind of skinny, especially in the legs. But I really like the BG organic AIO that snaps, so I guess it's just something about the FB design. I sold all our FBs to buy a couple more BG AIO. Come to find out - since my work daycare flaked we will be taking DS to a different center starting in August and they accept prefolds and covers so I didn't need all those pockets anyways - argh! oh well.

talking - I <3 all the sweet little noises DS is making. He is like a motor I can't turn off - he grunts happily (if that makes sense) and has just started the "oh" and little squeals.

Aww, I didn't realize that either!

I think you're right about the legs with the fbs. Aengus was skinny legged and long until recently and the fbs didn't quite fit his legs right. The smalls fit him well at 11lbs or so, but definitely not at 9 like they advertise.

I have not even begin to lose my baby weight. Because my body is too messed up right now to exercise at all! At first it was c section recovery and now my back is totally out. Anyway- I know I will heal and get back into shape. But for now I can't even clean my house when the baby naps as my back is like stuck in a really bad painful position! I have my 2nd chiropractor apptmnt in 2 days and I will see her 2x a week. So I am just resting and loving my baby and leaning on all the help I can get right now.

I've got two friends that are pg - one is due in July and one in September. I saw them last month and they looked super cute, but man oh man, I'm glad to be back in my pre-pg size and feelin' good!

W is doing great. Had his 2 month check up on Friday - weighs 12lbs 14oz and is 24.5 inches long. He started his first day at DC today - I'm back at work. He's eating very well. So alert, smiling, responsive, working on tummy time, slept thru the night for the first time last Thursday (8:30pm to 4am) and only gets up twice during the night. He's a fusser but mainly before nap time and when he toots. He's taking gas drops to help with that.
Big brother, J, is doing wonderful. He's so affectionate and constantly makes sure that his little bro is doing okay. It's so sweet.

I'm doing well. Slowly getting thru my first day back and being away from W. I feel healthy, haven't weighed myself in a few weeks, but I'm wearing some of my size 8's again and that makes me excited. Aaaaah...it's the little things.

Glad to hear that everyone is doing well!! I didn't really have much time to get on to this site when I was at home. We were constantly out of the house going for long walks (which helped contribute to my weight loss) and just enjoying the nice weather. Now that I'm back to work, it's rainy and cool. Perfect timing!

I'm super excited right now that the little guy is taking a nap without being swaddled. I think he's going to be so much happier. He did NOT like the swaddle but I couldn't get him to sleep without it.

So who wants to be in charge of creating the thread in the next section when we leave this one? I know I did all the weekly threads but I would prefer if someone else did the other one!!
Isn't it just one thread called FEb 2010 ddc or something and located in life with a babe?
Who wants to do it?!

Ok, figured I might as well ask you all in here.

Some of you might remember that I have supply problems that are most likely hormone related. None of the galactalogues work for me, even Reglan had only a temporary effect. Because of this I have not been able to successfully BF exclusively any longer than 6 months.

Caleb was 9 lbs 11 oz. at birth and 22" long. He has been about 99.5% exclusively BF'd - there have been a few nights where he was so fussy we tried doing a bottle with half formula/half expressed milk to see if a faster flow/greater volume would help any. On those occasions he's only drunk about 1-3 ounces, and this has been 3-4 times since birth. He is now just over 3 months old.

We had a WIC appointment yesterday and Caleb was 14 lbs. 11 oz. and 25" long. Quite possibly a little longer because he was not cooperative on that part at all. I was a bit concerned on his weight, as he was 13 lbs. 8 oz. and 24" at his 2 month checkup roughly a month ago (it was about a week late because of scheduling conflicts) - so only a pound or so of weight gain. The WIC lady was happy though, said he is proportionate for his height, the size of a lot of the 6 month olds they see, and they like to see a 6.5 pound gain for the first 6 months, so he should meet that easily since he's at a 5 pound gain now at 3 months.

I've always heard double their birth weight by 6 months, so at the rate he's going there is no way we will double birth weight by 6 months - he'd have to be nearly 20 lbs by then! I'm concerned 1) because he doesn't seem to be gaining as quickly as other babies the same age - many started out lighter than he was and are now heavier, 2) Because of all the issues we've had in the past and the fact that it is highly unlikely we will be able to BF a year, 3) During the day it seems like he is constantly on the boob. He does well at night - last night he went from 10 to 5 - but besides that stretch he is on the boob every 2 hours or less, and 4) We went from having at least one poopy diaper a day to only going every 2 or 3 days.

If he goes to bed early enough then I will pump before I go to bed to work on my stash (I try to wait at least 2 hours after he's last eaten) and I get anywhere from 1-4 ounces total. So I think something is there still, but is he gaining enough?

Nicole, I think that so far it sounds pretty normal. What time of day are you pumping, and are you pumping when he hasn't eaten in a while? Normally we have more milk in the morning than in the evening, so if you are getting 4 oz pumping --especially if it's later in the day -- that's awesome. And you know the little guy wouldn't sleep 10-5 if he was hungry!

Have you looked into thyroid? I'm still trying to find out if I have any issues, but I read that with hypothyroid, sometimes milk starts running low around 4-5 months postpartum. Maybe that could have been the problem before and won't be now?

Poops slowing down can be normal, too.

If you chart his weights from birth, do you see the line going up, instead of horizontal or downward? I don't weigh my babies (not Ju anymore, either, since 3 mos--she's almost 5 mos now)--instead I tend to measure growth by when they fit in and outgrow their clothes.

Not going downward or horizontal, though definitely leveling out.

So I was nursing in the ladies room today during the memorial service for a friend. And another woman came in to use the bathroom but then she left saying to me, "I just don't feel right. I'll go use the other bathroom." What?! I was completely covered up and everything.
