Flame Retardant Free Pajamas?

I'm in Canada, but the last time I was in the US, I managed to scoop a few pairs of gymboree pjs that were PBDE free (and only about 10$!). DD is outgrowing them though, and there's a new babe on the way, so I'm looking for more! Any ideas? I know Hadley (Hatley?) makes them, but I can't spend 30-40$ on a single pair. Where do you get your kids' pjs?

Usually I splurge on a couple pair of Hanna Anderssen pjs, but I thought they were ugly this year and couldn't justify spending that kind of $$$ on something that's not cute. . . I was delighted to find 2 pair for 12 at Target recently (I think it's a brand of Carter's). We've also found them for very cheap at the Children's Place. I wonder if you could order on line if you're in Canada?

Or look for cotton play clothes like leggings and t-shirts. Sweatpants and sweat shirts if you want something heavier.

Carters has non flame retardant pjs but they fit really really snuggly.

This is what we do. Cotton leggings and T-shirts in the winter; cotton shorts and T-shirts in the summer.

Most tight-fitting cotton pj's don't have flame retardants - that's why they are so snug. I like the Old Navy ones. Long john's will also work, as they are meant to be long underwear, not pj's.

I'm reading Slow Death By Rubber Duck right now, and there's a whole chapter on PBDEs. The authors say to look for clues like natural fibers and instructions that the jammies need to be "tight fitting" or "snug" or something along those lines. All synthetic fibers are actually treated with the flame retardants at the fiber level, as opposed to years ago when the garments themselves were treated. For this reason, you might get people at companies (the author spoke with someone at Carters, for example) who really believe their products aren't treated, when in fact they are.

If you have the money to spend, Hanna Andersson and Garnet Hill are nice!

I went to Old Navy, Gap, and Children's Place this past week, and had no luck in any of those stores. Both Old Navy and Gap have what look like snugger fitting pjs, but they do *not* say "wear tight fitting", or "not treated with flame retardants", or any of the other usual things that would indicate crap free clothing.
Gap's website does say that shipping to Canada is "coming soon", although who knows when that will be! Soon, I hope!
I'll have to check out Hanna Anderson. I did find these: http://www.snugorganics.com/sherpa-sleepers/ which are super cute and fit the chemical free requirement. Just $$$ though.
The leggings idea is a good one. DD refuses to sleep with any sort of blanket, and pulls socks off, so I like to have her in footed pjs, but I guess there are compromises to be made sometimes.
