does having a hospital birth before 37 weeks (like during the 36th wk) automatically land you...

I am 36w2d and while I realllly hope I make it 37+ wks with DD3, I'm starting to worry she will come this week. Was 3-4cm today and 60% effaced, tons of contrx and cramping/back pain, already lost chunks of mucus, etc. Knowing I could totally could Not have this week, it's enough to worry me. GBS test won't be back until Thurs, etc.

So my question is: if you have a pre-37wk baby, do they automatically want to do continuous monitoring and all that crud? Or that close to 37wks do they just go as normal? My last 2 were hosp births but came at 39 and 40 wks and were between 8 and 9lbs each.

Thanks for any experience!

I'd ask your provider about this. I think it would be dictated mostly by the OB or midwife on hand, yk?

Good luck!

In a lot of hospitals, anything less than 37 weeks does get a few more interventions. Stuff like antibiotics for GBS if your status is unknown (cause a premature baby is more likely to get sick), and blood sugar checks for the baby after birth (cause an early baby is more likely to have trouble regulating their own blood sugar).

Are you absolutely sure of your dates? You could maybe avoid some interventions if you can make a strong case for baby being older than everyone thought.

Do you mean interventions for the baby? I think they generally do what they think the baby needs and that it would be difficult to predict.

They don't always know what a baby needs until the baby is out.

Actually, I fought the opposite way. LMP dated me with a week earlier EDD (thus making me 37w+3 now). But I was pretty sure I ovulated several days later. An early sono matched exactly w/ my est O date so I convinced my OB to move my EDD a week Later, as they push 42w inductions. Kickin myself now. I was 3-4cm yesterday, still contracting off and on today, and am losing some muscus plug. I realllly hope she hangs out for a bit yet.

Thanks for the answers!
