I was sure it was rubella, but now I'm not so sure.

My unvaccinated 2 year old has a rash that I was sure was rubella. I don't have a photo, but if you Google rubella, it looks just like the photos. All the other symptoms matched (low fever, around 100, runny nose, conjunctivitis). The rash lasted about 5 days (the range is 3-5 days). But then, after the rash faded, it came back, especially on the tummy and chest.

The other thing that was a little different from the rubella description is that the rash showed up on the face last, instead of first. But other than that, it started and spread like a rubella rash--first near the ears, then down the neck, then on torso and back, then arms and legs.

Does anyone have an idea of what that could be?

He never got the slapped cheek look from 5th disease, and his fever wasn't high enough for measles or roseola.

Not all children get classic symptoms and will fit into the nice little descriptions they have of the diseases on the internet. Those are "typical" symptoms, but not kids present with typical symptoms. In short, it sounds like it could be rubella, or it could be a bunch of other things. I suppose the only way to know for sure if it was rubella is to check titres when she is better.
