blueberries in a pot

I ordered a top hat blueberry plant, and it should be here any day now. I don't have a pot for it yet, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers as far as what to look for in a pot when I buy one. How big should it be? And what should I put in it? I'm doing SFG and using "mel's mix." Will that work for blueberries? Or will is not be acidic enough?

I just got one of those round plastic baskets with rope handles from Walmart...the big ones. Drilled holes in it. I wouldn't go much smaller than that. I'd say it was 18-24" high at least. They needed the space. I don't know if Mel's mix would be acidic enough-I haven't used it. But you can get organic fertilizer for acid loving plants and add a bunch of straw.

I managed to kill both of my blueberry bushes when I planted them in the yard, so when they sent me replacement bushes I planted them in pots. I just used the 1 gallon black plastic pots that I had lying around from something else I bought at one time. This is my second year keeping them alive and they're going to produce this year. I put them in a decent mix of potting soil and compost and let them go. My soil wasn't acidic enough, so I diluted some vinegar and poured it in until I got the pH right.

Not to hijack, but since we're on the topic, are these blueberry bushes supposed to grow back every yr if they are in a pot? If so, do you take the pot inside during the winter?

They do grow back and I leave the pots outside all winter.

I have a blueberry bush in a pot. I used Sunshine potting mix, which is more acidic than other soils, at the advice of the family-owned nursery where I like to buy my edible plants. Today, I picked up some food for it. Anything organic made for azaleas will be best, so the girl told me. I got Dr. Earth's because it came in the smallest container. (I only have one blueberry bush and a tiny shed/backyard, so space is a major concern.)

My pot is a five-gallon plastic pot with drainage.

Call around to your local plant nurseries/tree nursery.

My local tree place sells big plastic pots (think 5-20 gallon sized - yes, gallon) for $.50-$2/each. They're sturdy, already have drainage holes, etc. And yup, then you can customize it's soil and add more peat moss or whatnot. Hmmm... may need to take some of my blueberries with me now that I'm thinking about it...
