Help me make an alphabet in cars!

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
My 4.5 y.o loves being read to... but is very resistant to learning letters. (most of them, anyway). Another mommy gave me an idea to do coloring pages with something he absolutely loves.

Can you help me fill in the alphabet with really cool car words?? I am totally drawing a blank. (I don't know if this has already been done, I didn't find anything useful on google).

A

C = Corvette
D
E
F = Ferrari
G
H
I
J
K
L
M = Monster Truck

One book I have and one book we've borrowed from the library come to mind. Richard Scarry has a cars ABC book that has things like "pickle car" and "yogurt car" and the kids think it is really funny. We borrowed a Racecar Alphabet from the library that my DS really enjoyed.

Looking for the links at amazon I see another Nascar ABC book.

So not that you can't make up your own, but if you want some ready-mades...

ETA: Sorry, those aren't useful for coloring pages really, but they might promote your cause of learning letters and reading together!

A Amtrack
B brake pedal, bumper sticker
C = Corvette
D driver
E engine
F = Ferrari, fire truck
G gas, gas station, garage
H
Iindy 500
J jack man (pit crew)
K
L lollipop man (pit stop crew)
M = Monster Truck
N
O
P park, parking lot, pedal, pit crew
Q quick
R = Race car, refueling
S speed, steering wheel, stop sign
T train, tow truck, trophy, train tracks, tire man
U
V
W wheel, winner, windshield
X x-ray
Y
Z zamboni, zap around the track
(DS likes trains and is suggesting those; he also says, "What should I be for? It should be for injuries.")

And I second the idea to try alphabet books. DS liked (still likes) Z is for Zamboni; there's a whole series. If you make up your own, try to use the hard consonants (c=k) and short vowels.

You could also make a photo alphabet book with pictures of him (J = Jump).

How Disney/Character is your family? Cause you could come up with all sorts of stuff with the Cars movie. L could be Lightning McQueen, M could be Mater, R could be Route 66. And coloring pages would be easy to find on line, just do a little photoshopping to add the letters.

You could also do Indy 500 for I, Daytona 500 for D, NASCAR for N, Helmet for H, Pit Crew for P.

There's also car parts-Tire for T, Bumper for B, Steering Wheel for S, Door for D, Windshield for W, Engine for E.
