URGENT: Sew/knit present for 8yo girl - any ideas?

My ds has two girl friends we have known forever, and their birthdays are all within a week of each other. Therefore, it gets expensive! They will all be 8 in a few weeks (where does the time go????) and I wanted to make something for the girls. Any ideas? I can sew and knit (and crochet), but I reckon I don't really have time for knitting something, as their birthdays are in about 2 weeks (yikes). So maybe sewing?

A top?
A bag?
A bag with their name on it?
HELP!

If you have any ideas, do you know of any patterns? (I am being cheeky now!)

How about making each girl a type of treasure bag or frilly bag? Sorta like a pre-purse stage?

Is 8 too old for a crayon roll or wallet? Those are quick and easy. I made this one for a friend's toddler and it was well received. You could easily make it for 16 normal sized crayons rather than the 8 larger toddler sized crayons. I looked all over for a pattern for something like this, but didn't find one. I wound up making my own and would be happy to share the measurement of the pieces if you like. There are several tutorials for crayon rolls on the web.

I think an 8 year old would like either a lazy day skirt or a market skirt.

Is 8 too old for a crayon roll ?

Instead of a crayon roll, I would do a 'marker' roll or colored pencil roll.

For Christmas I made my kids an apron each and packaged it up with a couple of pots of cake sprinkles. I would maybe add a box of cake mix that the girls would be able to make themselves.

Maybe a quillow? We made those in middle school. It's a blanket with a pocket on it that folds into a pillow. (Quilt + pillow)
