baby wearing - Page 2

There's a picture in the babywearing picture thread of us with my freehand. Rowena was all of three days old in it I wore my youngest from newborn stage on as well.

Cecilia's Mom: I could never really deal with the ring slings due to my back. No matter what the hold or adjustment, they just hurt me. The Mei Tai is much much better.

I wore our little guy in a Maya ring sling yesterday (at 2 weeks, 2 days) on a six mile hike (and nursed him in it half way through--otherwise he slept the whole time). I find that I like the Maya RS best for myself--easy on and off, comfy for little guy and I feel like it's easy to avoid "user error". We've tried the Ergo with the infant insert and don't like how he sits in it, with his head basically supported on the shoulder strap and his feet dangling out the side--the whole thing felt jerry rigged. Not comfy for either of us...so we'll save the ergo for when he's big enough to sit straddling us. My DW likes the Moby for it's back support and comfort for her. With my residual carpal tunnel I am still having a hard time wrapping the moby.

Hmm, so I've been using the pikkolo a lot recently. She's in it right now.

My shoulder muscles are starting to be sore, which makes sense. But the odd thing is that I'm starting to have a sore spot under the back strap, right where my epidural was. It doesn't hurt to touch it, which is the weird part. It only hurts randomly since I've been wearing the pikkolo.

Dh has tried our ergo and moby now and really prefers our Moby

I'm really want to try a mei tai but have to get a new backpack diaper bag first.

finally using the moby a lot, but i find it hot even in cool weather. just went to a LLL league meeting and another mom was using a bamboo version, made by loveyduds on Etsy...... WANT one, but they are $70! hahahahaha, oh well....

seriously, though, the fabric was gorgeous, and it was SO lightweight in comparison, if anyone wants to check them out.

Have you looked at the wombfruit? They're not nearly as expensive and the material is way lighter than the Moby. I'd like one but at this point even the low price on the wombfruit is too much!

P+H, check out Wombfruits, she makes gauze wraps. Here in southern AZ, it's above 90 already, and so far I'm doing well with my wrap!

I use my own "Moby" wrap a lot. This baby likes having her head up and looking around when she's awake though.

Did you guys see:

It is a great deal and all but I'm not sure about supporting Infantino after their disastrously ill-thought-out jump onto the babywearing bandwagon with those supercrappy "slings" and the resulting bad publicity...

I got one. I've been wanting a Mei Tai style carrier for ages and that price can't be beat.

so i've got her in the ring sling, but although she looks comfy, i'm not. i'm not sure i get why people love these. maybe if i could manage to get it on super fast it would be worth it, but it takes me less time to get the pikkolo on, and the pikkolo is comfier. but the ring sling is a little cooler.

i'll look at wombfruit... though from reading about it here, i thought it was not a knit fabric, so not stretchy? i think that feature makes the moby and other wraps like it so great...
I like her sling, ring sling, and moby. She gets PISSED when I do the moby but that's because it still takes me some time to get it set up and put her in. Once she's in there, though, she is a happy (or asleep) camper.
I use the sling most of the time cause it's quicker, and I can sort of swivel to eat while wearing here. With the moby, I just drop food on her head and feel guilty!

Also, she is snoring a lot when in her sling... I know babies are fine kinda crunched up but she doesn't seem to snore unless she's squinched up in the sling. She seems happy, should I be worried? She's not quite laying down, not quite sitting up... don't want to constrict her breathing!

It is woven and not stretchy, yes. But it's so lightweight and it's really not too hard to use.

Jess, you could try putting her in the sling upright, with her legs frogged. That's the only position Cecilia likes.

I'm still loving the pouch (I sew my own -- it's so easy!), but I don't think that'll last for much longer with him at 10.5 pounds. I'm already starting to feel it on my back. And he hates cradle in it -- once we figured out to froggie him upright, things went much better.

DH carries him froggied in a Beco Butterfly for long outings (like Disney), and I've put him in an older Beco a time or two.

We abandoned the Moby fairly early (it's just too much of a pain to get on for us), and I just never figured out a ring sling.

It's amazing what a personal choice carriers are -- and both parents and baby get input!

Cecilia's Mama -- you've sold me on the Wombfruit. Its just getting too hot for the Moby (well, not at the moment as its like 50 out), and a wrap is my preferred playground carrier. I just ordered one in Periwinkle. I was going to make my own, but I priced out the cost of the fabric vs having her do, and I'd only be saving a few dollars. I have tons of sewing projects to do, so I'm glad to cross one off the list.

So far, I've been using a bunch of carriers with this one.

Ring sling is my go to at the moment, because she is still so light. I use that for preschool drop off/pick up and trips to the store.

Moby is around the house and playground carrier.

Hotsling is not my favorite, but perfect when I just need to be hands free at home for a few minutes and dont want to deal with putting on the Moby.

We also have an Ergo with infant insert. I've used that the least so far, but I know it's going to become a favorite when she's a bit older. I'd probably use it out and about now, but its a little too warm with the infant insert for the hotter weather.

My least used in the Mei Tei, because its sort of been replaced by the Ergo. It's a gorgeous Kozy Carrier, but I'm thinking about selling it. I hate to do that, but I really can't think of an instance where I'd choose that over another carrier.

Ugh, my ring sling, which I wore all the time with DD now hurts my back and neck. I seriously can't wear it without developing a terrible neck ache later on. And the infant insert for my Ergo makes my baby hate life. I have a Moby and I think I'll give that a whirl. I didn't like it with DD because it took way too long to get it on and get the baby comfortable.

What I need is something that holds baby in a cradle hold that fits me like an Ergo. But I can't afford anything else right now

My RS has been used the most, by far! It's just so quick on and off, that I always grab it for around the house. I think I won't be able to use it for much longer as it hurts my back to wear for too long already. I'm definitely glad I have it though, and no wonder I didn't wear DS1 as much, cause Moby wrap takes forever to wrap. Yesterday, I just gave up in frustration cause baby was screaming and grabbed RS instead. My Moby wrap has been terribly neglected this time around. I tried using it, but for some reason it's just not happening for us.

Beco Butterfly has been nice to have for walks. I don't like a couple of things about it though. First, baby boy is so tall, that his head sticks out of the carrier, there isn't anything to support it, so I have to hold on to it, unless he is asleep on my shoulder. Second, I'm not sure I how I feel about that inner panel. I picked it for easy back carries and I'm sure I will enjoy it, once he is old enough for that. I've been considering trading it in for Angelpack, which would solve both of those problems, but then I keep thinking in another month or so, I'll love having the inner panel for easy back carries. I can't decide Angelpack is more simple and easy to put on....hummm...

Lena, I got a chunei with an inner panel similar to the one on the become for the same reason with dd2. I stopped using the inner sling in a week or so after buying it (and did back carries with a mt from 3 weeks). Once you practice over a mattress a few times, doing a hip scoot or superman toss is just as easy.

Speaking of, I tried my angled strap podaegi (UhBoohBahBaby) today. Love it! I've only tried a front carry with it, because when I was getting ready to try her on my back I noticed she went to sleep.

As for my rs, I like it. I'm using it and the pouch pretty equally for the majority of the time I wear her. The ergo for longer trips (will be using the pod for this to, especially if I may need to tandem wear Lucy and dd2), and the chunei to put her on my back for cooking.
