Self Sustaining Intentional Communities?

Does anyone here live in one of the self sustaining intentional communities like Twin Oaks, Acorn, Sandhill, or Eastwind? Maybe you have visited there?

My husband and I are very dissatisfied with mainstream American life and this is something we might explore. I emailed a couple of these communities but I am sure they get a lot of email and I am not sure if I will hear back from them.

If anyone has any experience with these communities I would love to talk!

I received an email from a mama who along with some others are exploring my neck of the woods to start one. It is a real interesting idea to me. Actually, our family and two bachelor's are kind of working on that where we are... starting small (going to stay small, but hoping for another family or two with children someday). Right now, we are working on making our lives here sustainable. It is a really slow process, and we are filing for non-profit status soon. We are going to offer educational opportunities for folks to visit our home and also for us to visit them (art, traditional music, sustainable agriculture, natural family living, homeschool, and childbirth education). I'm really hopeful despite us not having a working tiller and just losing our flock of chickens for the 3rd time. I'm with you. I'd love to hear more about it all.
