(maybe a dumb ?) re: FF message

okay, so I've been charting on FF since December. Today, I got a message that I haven't seen before, in an important red box:

Note: Your chart data does not allow ovulation to be pinpointed to within a 24 hour timeframe. Your temperature suggests, however, that ovulation may have occurred between CD 8 and CD 14.

To me, it looks like I'm 2dpo, waiting for a confirmation temp tomorrow (fx). I haven't seen this message before, even on my ovulatory charts... is FF trying to tell me something about this cycle's chart?

ETA: The temp and open circle on CD11 was b/c it was 2 hours later than normal, so probably it is artificially high. Does that maybe have something to do with it?

i had that message once when i missed several days of temping around o time. do you think it's from all the open circles? your temps are really all over the board, arent they.

my suggestion... give it a couple days temping, if your temp stays up where it is, FF will probably change your O date to cd14. If not, you could try discarding that abnormally high one... but i agree, you very much look like 2dpo.

Part of the reason I'm obsessing is cuz I'm waiting to start progesterone for my spotting&LPD. But, since my temps are all over the place and I've been wrong about O'ing before, my MW really didn't want me to start until 3dpo so I can be sure to not hold off O.

karmab- yeah, my temping is a bit suboptimal (okay, it is really crappy ) I'm doin the best I can with a co-sleeping LO who doesn't know what a schedule is. I think I'm the woman FF made the "Same time or 3 hours sleep" FAQ for. (I've played around and chosen 3 hours of sleep over same time)

I wonder about the open circles... last month, I had way more open circles around O and I didn't see the message. But, I'm gonna sit and play on FF and see what happens if I take them away...

@ MP- I just tried discarding the high temp and the message is still there. You're right, I'm just going to have to wait it out. Just one more thing to obsess about, kwim? Mostly I was asking b/c I'm not sure why I got that message this cycle when I've never seen it before...

I agree with everyone about CD14. I also think FF is just dumb sometimes. I've had VERY clear temp patterns before where it never pinpoints it (well, that happened once), and much less clear patterns where it does pinpoint it.

agreed. Good reminder to not trust computer programs over your own body...

speaking of, this just dawned on me- I wonder if it doesn't want to call an O date b/c of my eternal spotting? Like, does it think I don't know that I'm having AF (I'm not, it is spotting...)

that would be the easy answer, wouldn't it.

Still, am I supposed to "get" something from that message? I mean, until you have 3 high temps, FF can't ever tell you O... right? I'm baffled by this message.

The same thing happened to me this cycle. I had an off temping day, ended up adjusting, and my signs didn't all match up, so I got that message. I also believe I ovulated late enough at night that my temp rise was delayed an extra day after O. I chose to override based on when I had O pains--they type I only seem to have on O day, and when cm dried up and cp changed.

given how your sleep is so varied, it would be very helpful (well, it's helpful for anyone, even without bouncy temps) to add in cm and cp, and opks, especially since you need to know for progesterone. none of them is foolproof, but that's 3 more clues when you are trying to decifer what is going on. personally, im not one to change things around to make my chart look a certain way, ykwim? like you can take a chart without an o and discard certain temps and adjust others for time, and before you know it you have a great looking chart with a 'clear' o, but that may not be accurate, and so it's not helpful. the goal is not to have a good looking chart, but to have a chart that gives you usable info. you've got some real challenges because of the sleep thing, but i would keep doing the best i can, and add in cm and cp and opks, and see where that gets you. you can get 25 opks for $6.75, free shipping, on amazon. good luck, girl.
