I have a Mirena in place and I am holding 2 BFP FRERs **Update#15**

Ok, I am freaking out. I have a Mirena in place. I can still feel the strings. They are in the same place they have always been. I have not had af for more than 2 months. I have been moody (understatement) and breasts are extremely sore.

I took 4 dollar tree tests yesterday. All of them had a hint of a line during the time limit. I am talking so faint you aren't really sure its there. After the time limit they were darker with color.

So today I took 2 FRER, they were both BFP immediately. No squinting needed. I called the doctor and went in for a blood test this afternoon. Won't get results back until tomorrow. I also have an ultrasound and doc appointment tomorrow.

Is there anyone out there who has experienced this? I am so scared. This would be baby #5. I have secretly wanted another baby but knew we would never try for one. I sooooo want this baby.

I have not but I know its possible and happens way more often than you would think even with the IUD still in place correctly.

I know that if you catch it soon enough it is not as much trouble to get the IUD removed so it does not cause problems with the pregnancy, if you let it go too long it could become a problem though so seeing your doctor was the right move.

Good luck!

I got pregnant with twins while using the copper IUD (paraguard?). It was perfectly in place, only 2 years old, and had JUST been checked by my OB.

The best outcomes are usually when the IUD is removed. For me, they removed the IUD, then did an ultrasound to check on the status of the baby (or babies, as we found out). The dr. said if I was going to miscarry, it would happen within the first day or two after removal. It didn't.

Best of luck to you! Get that IUD removed before the strings are drawn in, k?

The IUD has got to be removed. I'm not sure why your dr. didn't do that when you were in.

I got pregnant with the Mirena about a year and a half ago. It was a bad, sad, scary situation.
On the other hand, I personally know an IUD baby, so I don't want to freak you out with just my situation. Just please be sure to pay close attention to whatever signals your body gives you, and insist that any and all medical professionals LISTEN to you.

Crossing my fingers for good news today!

It does happen a lot from what i hear/read. I don't really know much about the coil and up until i was pregnant with caden and a hv at the local antenatal group showed us a 2 different coils for some reason whenever anyone mentioned coils i had these horrible visions of something resembling a bedspring lol.
Congratulations on the pregnancy.

yeah, I'm surprised they didn't remove it when you were in for the blood draw. But they need to get it out asap. One of my SIL kids was an IUD baby, no problems.

Congratulations

I haven't personally experienced this, but know of women who have gotten pregnant with IUDs in and gone on to have healthy babes. Good luck mama!

ITA with previous posters: it's very possible! It hasn't happened to me personally, but I am aware of at least two such cases among my acquaintances.

Thanks everyone for the support. I am actually having an ultrasound at 1:15 today with doctor's appointment following. I am extremely nervous, so many thoughts running through my head. I'll update this afternoon.

Thanks again.

Update

Ok, so I am back from the doc. It is confirmed. I am PREGNANT. They did an ultrasound and the iud was perfectly in place but were not able to see the pregnancy. My hcg is 74 and I can't remember what the progesterone level was but it was a little low but still within the normal range. She did remove the mirena. She thinks it is just too early to see anything. So I go back on Monday to have blood drawn again.

So for now and praying that it stays that way, I am expecting again!

Congrats MAMA!

I had 6 BFPs with my mirena in ( had to keep testing because I couldn't believe it), and today those bfps are a healthy happy 5 year old.

Congratulations! Drink tons and rest up over the next couple of days, and don't let cramping worry you too much...your cervix and uterus might be a little cranky about the IUD removal (I know mine was). Good luck!
