Bedding, blankets etc..

I need some advice on the best way to keep blankets, quilts and so forth between seasons.

At the moment it is Autumn here so we are just dragging all these things out to use again, but when we are not using blankets, I don't have a good method of storing them.

I have been keeping them either in storage bags under the house, or piled on chairs in the lounge room!

I think I might need to declutter some cupboards first in order to make some space to store them better.

We have no under bed space either, as I have seen in pics that some people do...so that is not an option.

Thanks for any feedback.

We have an old house with no closets in the northeast US. I keep all bedding out year round. We use mid-weight down comforters and they stay on the end of the bed all summer and even get used now and then (like when I bother to make a bed or on a really cool night). Sheets not in use and a couple of extra blankets are in a big old trunk in the spare bedroom.

Editing to add we moved a couple of years ago and I really looked closely at bedding. I just had too much. I cleaned out a lot and only kept what we used. For example I had a whole box of twin sheets from my childhood my mom handed me. My boys might need a change of sheets now and then due to an accident but I certainly did not need 10 changes of sheets. Besides my boys are not into strawberry shortcake

Subbing. I have the same problem.

So glad I am not alone! We have a linen closet with fabric baskets that hold the extras...I also am down to one spare sheet set per bed (currently have full and 2 twin beds in the house). I also have to keep a set of queen sheets for our air mattress and pull-out sofa bed. It adds up!

I have what I feel are so many extra blankets...we might only need them all once a year when we have several family members stay with us (we are military and far from family, so must have some extras for their visits), but when we need them, we really need them, lol!

Could you maybe store your extra sheets and even thinner blankets between the mattress and boxspring on each bed? Or maybe use some bed risers to help increase the storage space under beds?

Sorry I am no help, but looking forward to hearing from others!

Lucyem...having a big old trunk in a spare room sounds divine, unfortunately we have no spare rooms, and our bedrooms are too cluttered still to fit a trunk, however it may be a possibility when I have made more progress with decluttering eventually! I do think I could also get rid of some sheets...however DH always tells me to put them under the house for covering things 'one day' if we ever get painting or renovations done, however that day never seems to come, and we end up with bags full of sheets cluttering up the basement. However I suppose that is better than having them cluttering up the bedrooms.

That is an interesting idea...to store things under the mattress, I never would have thought of that, as I suppose I would have thought it would make it lumpy, but I guess if I stretch them out and lay them flat it might work.

I have never heard of bed risers I have to admit.

Bed risers can work well. But if your bed is already at a normal height be prepared for it to be TALL.

My mom uses huge space bags - the kind you take the vacuum hose to. It works amazingly well. She has zero storage and those bags make a huge difference.

ETA: And when her house just flooded the things in the space bags were the only ones we didn't have to wash. So if you are storing under the house in tubs this would be a good solution.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently had to BUY two (very cheap) sheets to cover something and I was SO mad at myself for not having saved some old ones. Luckily my mom came through with some old curtains or I would have had to buy more. I will never throw out a sheet again.

LOL about the sheets....maybe DH has a point!

I will have to enquire about bed risers..have never heard of them and have no idea what they look like.

I must admit I have tried those space bags, but for me they always leaked and got air back in them...
