I've been trying to get my kitchen counter tops clutter-free for a year now (ever since I moved in).
I did it!
It seemed like no matter how many times I completely cleared the space, it would be totally TRASHED by the end of the night. Even if I cleared them earlier that evening. So, I tried to figure out what the catalyst was.
First, I started putting my purse, diaper bag, and lunchbox on the coat hooks by the back door. Still cluttered.
Then, I tried to make sure all the tools (screwdrivers, hand trowels, planters) were off the counter and put away. Still cluttered.
Then it dawned on me. It's the friggin mail!!!!! As soon as those papers hit the counter, everything else flies across the room to join them! So, I emptied one of my cabinet drawers (it all fit in an adjacent drawer), and put all the mail, paperwork, and phone book into that drawer. Then I finished putting everything else on the counter away.
It has been TOTALLY clutter free for 3 days now!!!!!
