losing vitamins via morning sickness

Thread Starter
Hi, I actually get morning sickness at night, about four to five hours after I take my prenatal vitamins. I'm starting to wonder if I'm losing the vitamins from the vomiting. Should I take them again after I bow at the porcelain throne? Or maybe they're already absorbed into my system and I don't have to worry.
Suggestions?

I'm not sure how long prenatal vitamin pills take to absorb into your system but I'm sure someone here will have an idea.

What I wanted to say though is I bet your vitamin is contributing to your nausea. Have you ruled that out yet? It's very common. Stop taking it for three days and see what happens. There have been a few really useful threads here with brands of prenatals that seem to cause less nausea than others. Many women choose to skip it altogether because they find they can eat more nutritiously when they're not feeling so sick (I'm not advocating that but this logic eased my guilt during the weeks when I just couldn't take my prenatal, it made my all-day-sickness that much worse).

4-5 hours should be more than enough time for them to absorb. Most vitamins/medications taken orally are absorbed within 30mins-1hr.

Maybe try a powdered vitamin?

I don't take vits during morning sickness because they make me too sick.

I'd also second the idea that you have absorbed them, and I know for a fact that certain brands bother me.

I ditto the idea that the prenatals may be making you sick. With my first pregnancy I took a prescribed (like, get it at the pharmacy) vitamin for a couple weeks and felt like absolute death. It wasn't even a very good vitamin, I don't know what I was thinking, except that insurance covered it. I forgot to take it one day and voila! I felt decent again. Personally, I take a really, really good women's multi-vitamin that has always made me feel good and healthy. It's as good as most any prenatal on the shelf, so I stick with it now.

I get so sick from my vitamins. If I take them with a substantial meal, I can be okay, but the *thought* of them makes me more sick. And it doesn't take much of waking up at night, throwing up with that distinctive taste, to make me think it's not a good idea.

I am looking for a better option (I've been taking Rainbow Light Prenatal One), but have been going without at this point. My MW has told me in the past that taking 2 Flinstones/kids vitamins would be fine, too. Flinstones have enough flavor I could do that, but the Rainbow Light kids vitamins still eek me out!
