I think clutter-free spaces are a reward in themselves, but my recent decluttering has brought me some unexpected bonuses.
I've been working hard to keep my kitchen countertops neat. My dh unfortunately has habit of using disposable plastic cups and insists on having them in the house.Well, I've been annoyed for a long time with having look at an ugly stack of plastic cups on the counter, and I didn't want to buy one of those plastic cup holders because I felt like that would be a sign of approval. So I just put the stack in one of the cabinets with some other cups. Well now that he already has to open a cabinet to get a cup, he's started using glasses instead!
While decluttering the top drawer of my dresser, which I use for underwear but also anything I don't want dd to get her hands on, I found a picture of my mother and father that I had misplaced a few years ago. It's the only photo I have of them together. (My mother died when I was a child and my father died several years ago, so it was really important to me and I really missed having it.) It was way in the back of the drawer behind a space organizer. I never would have found it if I hadn't emptied the whole drawer out to declutter it.
In the same drawer I found 50 Euro I'd folded up into a little box and forgotten about.
And all this inspires me to do more, too!
I imagine that many of you have had similar experiences.
