what to make with a single piece of slate?

I have a single piece of slate from a roof. It's about 12"X10". I want to do something creative with it, like make a piece of art or use it somehow in my home. I've thought of painting something on it, like a little scene, but I'm not too good at painting. I'm crafty, but not exactly an artist. Does anyone have any ideas?

I saw your thread title and thought of my mom who used to paint on them, but you've already thought of that. I don't paint well either, but, if it were me, I'd paint but not "artsy" scenes. I'd make a sign for my front door or something with our surname on it and use a stencil to add a little design. Or maybe something for the garden/backyard? I have a piece of slate that is painted with "Welcome to my Garden" and a few little flowers. Holes drilled in it and hung on a lace of leather. You could put anything on it really. Do you have a favorite saying or quotation? What about as a gift?

I painted our address number and some flowers on a broken piece from our roof and hung it out front. Not the most creative idea, but it was easy and we did need to make our address more visible.
