Breast WAS engorged, but now VERY painful

I have a 7 week old boy and one breast became VERY engorged while he was asleep in my lap. He woke up and nursed over an hour ago, but that breast still hurts a LOT. I just took some tylenol it was so bad. Interfering with my ability to do anything. Should I pump it? Or is this just residual pain from engorgement?

How are you feeling today Mama?

It could be lingering pain, but if it's still hurting it's likely a clog/mastitis.

It is feeling better?

Is one area more tender than the rest? Does it feel warm? Can you feel a clog?

You might try compressions while nursing.

I ended up pumping which helped a lot. That or the tylenol. I've been trying to nurse on that breast to get it empty, but it's making more milk. Not sure how to get back in balance.

I had that happen once! I pumped both breasts to empty. Then next nursing nursed on one, and pumped the other to about half (until it was soft, but still had milk coming). Then, at the next nursing, nurse from the pumped breast until empty. You might then have to switch sides, but it evened me back out.

Good luck!
