Help switching from toilet to baby potty?

I have been PT EC-ing my baby since birth. I haven't been very consistent with it, but we have days in which few diapers get wet or dirty. How can I teach her to potty in her little mini potty when she's so used to the toilet?

Now my baby is 8 months old. She is used to having me hold her over the toilet to potty, and she doesn't take well to the little mini potty I got her, whether I hold her over it or sit her down on it. She often cries when I sit her on it, and she hardly ever cries! She is close to crawling and can get to a sitting position on her own.

Thanks for any ideas!

TBmum addresses this in her fantastic EC website. http://www.tribalbaby.org/ECpottypractice.html

(: Looking at that again reminds me I need to put a mat under Lina's potty, that'd save me some wiping up of mild overspray. Nothing like a catch where you still have to wipe up floor dribblies.)

Is there a reason you want her to go on the little potty if she prefers the big potty? Big potty is easier in many ways because then you don't have to rinse it out and clean it. Another advantage is that when out and about, you won't have to bring the little potty since she prefers regular toilets.

Understandably you may have reasons for wanting to transition. I know holding our DS over the regular toilet was hard on DH's back the heavier he got. But I am just saying if there is not an issue, having them prefer the big pot is great!

You could always get a seat reducer on your family toilet. She may like to sit on that since she is more comfortable with that area. I love the kind that you can flip up and down; that stay on the potty. Easier than taking something on and off, and having to store it.

Most likely in time she will like the little potty. Possibly when she wants more independence or if she gets a bored-with-pottying-stage as she grows, bringing out a new receptacle can often re-spark the interest!

Thank you for those replies! TBmum's article got me back into a mellow perspective, and riboflavin's comment made me realize I'm still okay with my baby using the toilet for now!

We're having a good time with EC these days. No stress, just happiness when we do catch something.

Update:

My babe is 10mo now. I starting "having a feeling" that she would like to try pottying on a baby potty even though she doesn't like the one we have. So I took her to the store and let her sit on a bblp, and she was so excited about it! I took her home and she happy to pee and poop while sitting on it. Now we are flexible--sometimes in the toilet, sometimes in the bblp. It's great!

Also, she is almost 100% free of poopy diapers. She signals by grunting (or I can just tell) and then waits until we get to a toilet most of the time to poop. She often has days in which diaper changes are only needed once or twice. Yay!
