Preschool "themes"

My DS is almost 3 and I'm trying to do a very, very loose theme-per-week this summer and on. Nothing structured, just picking a topic, getting library books about it, talking about it and trying to do activities related to it when possible. I'm not really planning on working on "academics", since he already knows letters, letter sounds, shapes, colors, opposites, numbers, etc. I'm looking more for broad topics.

I'm already planning on the weather for one topic (unless I want to break it up and do rain one week, snow, etc?). Then I just want to get a long list together to pull from and see what I think would interest him at a specific time.

DS resists "projects" and all things planned for him, so I need to do this very casually. He loves books and talking about things, though. Additionally, this kid HATES crafts. Will not tolerate them, so ideas for resources that don't suggest a billion "how to make it" activities would be nice.

The Brightly Beaming Resources preparatory curriculum has themes every week. She makes book and song suggestions based on each theme, and it's usually pretty easy to find other books on the theme.

Check out the preschool curriculum guides at a bookstore or a library. Both should have a full section of "teacher resources" and I've found some really cool books. For a science curriculum based on themes, look at "Science is Simple."
