I'm going to try potty training my 18 mo DD in the next few weeks, she already uses the potty several times a day, when I ask, and is often dry in between changes, she also chooses to go on it herself sometimes. So I think I'll try putting knickers on her and see how it goes. What about naps though? Should I put her in a pull-up so that it doesn't matter if she wees while asleep/briefly waking/first waking up, and then if she's managing to be dry during naps swap to knickers?

DD1 wasn't napping by the time she was PLed, but DD2 was still napping. I did put her in dipes for several months during naptime. Even if she did stay dry the entire nap, she would need to pee that very instant she woke up, often I couldn't get her on the potty fast enough and pee would be everywhere so it was much calmer for everyone if she just wore a dipe until she could hold it longer then one nano second.

DS is fully daytime trained, but we still use diapers for naps and overnight. He sleeps very soundly and takes really long naps, so there's no way he could stay dry yet. I think once he's dry a few days at naptime we'll get rid of the nap diaper, but for now it's no big deal and it didn't hinder him using the potty the rest of the day. (In fact, he'll take off his diaper and go potty if he needs to go before he falls asleep.)

Thanks for the responses, I thought my thread was going to disappear without any replies
. I'll probably go with pull-ups for naps then, once I start. I'm just waiting for her current bout of teething to pass before i give potty training a try - although it might be a long wait, it's been over a month of teething and still only one tiny bit of tooth
. I'm quite nervous about starting PT-ing properly, I guess I'm worried I'll get something wrong and upset her, but hopefully it will go as smoothly as possible, i think she's doing really well so far. Today at a friends house I notice it looked like she needed a wee but I'd forgotten to bring the potette - so I sat her on the loo with me and she did a wee, I was so proud of her.
