Recently potty-learned, option for the airplane

I am not sure if this is the best forum for this note. Please point me in the right direction if it isn't.

DS is almost 3 and recently learned to use the potty. We are traveling next week and I am not sure what to use on the airplane. Our flight is < 3 hours but I'm worried he'll be too freaked out to use the lavatory if he has to go.

Everyone keeps saying to just put him in a Pull-Up. But I don't want to. I don't want to buy a whole package if I am only going to use 2 or 3. So wasteful. Blah. But I also don't want to bring along some CD because I do not want to have to worry about laundering them properly if I only have two or three. Plus I don't want the diaper to encourage him to regress (though once or twice is not the end of the world).

Is there any other solution that I'm just not thinking of? If there really is no other choice I'll just put him in a CD and hope he stays dry.

I wouldn't bother. Make sure he uses the toilet in the airport before the flight and bring 2 changes of clothes. Chances are, he'll be charmed by the airplane potty (my DD was) and quite happy to go in it.

The other option is to bring his little potty with you--I used to bring DD's everywhere. Stick it in your carry on in a plastic bag with some antibacterial wipes, shouldn't be a problem to get on the plane with it.

Thanks for your reply alfabetsoup. I think I will just give it a try and see how it goes. I am considering just using a cover over his regular undies if he will allow it. I'd hate to have an accident in his carseat on the plane.

You are probably righ that he'll love the airplane potty.

I did a plane ride with my DD verys soon after seh FINIALLY PT (it was a looooong journey) oh how I wish I'd sprung for the pull ups (or brought cloth) first off we ended up kinda stuck in this little termnal area at bording where we kinda didn't have aceess to a bathroom (we did but it was super inconvient) then we ended up ona flight with a lot of turbulance and a 4 year old who eaither couldn't becaue of the fasten seat belts signs or refused to use the scarry potty.. But shes didn't want to wet herself eaither cause her clothes and pretty dress would be ruined so she jsut screamed and cried shes wanted to go home and her tummy hurt. ..
On the way back I bought a small package of pull ups she kept the one on her dry the entire trip but it was totaly worth the piece of mind for both of us (I would have used cloth if I'd had any with me) and I donated the rest to our church.

Good question. We have a trip coming up soon and I'm thinking I'll just wing it. He would not take well to any form of diaper or pull up. Maybe I'll put something waterproof under his bum in the seat, though?
