Holy Batman.... huge social progress today!

DS has a friend from school (well, 2- twin brothers). Both were in his preschool class last year and one is in his class this year (the one who is not in his class has autism, I'd guess moderate- he's definitely more severe than ds). Anyway, we've seen them at a local park a few times and knew they lived in the area. Last week we were walking in our neighborhood and the mom/kids drove by and stopped when they saw us. She told us that she lived right there, which was like 3 or 4 blocks from our house! Well within walking distance (and we actually walk right by it probably 3-4 days a week). The mom and I have talked a little bit and get along well. She gave us her cell number last week when we saw them.

So today ds wanted to ride his new scooter. He wanted to go to his friends house to see if they were outside playing. When we got there, they weren't outside. So he asked if he could call. HE MADE HIS FIRST PHONE CALL TO A FRIEND! He called and asked to talk to S or O (the two boys) then asked S if he was home and could play. S said they were at the park so ds decided he wanted to go too. So we went back home and got my car and went to the park where the boys played for about 1 1/2 hours. They (ds and S) were excited and were bugging us to let them visit each others houses. We promised we would do that next week

So then I took ds to dp's soccer game. DS struck up a conversation with one of our friends (the only non-family member who has babysat ds- she is a special ed teacher and has been a respite care worker to a boy with autism for years) and invited her over! They made a date for Saturday

I'm so proud of little dude!!!

Yay!!! Its so fun to see our kiddos start to come into their own. Most moms of neurotypical kids just don't understand my excitement over things like this, lol.

That's really exciting. I teach K in a small ASD inclusion class and those kinds of things just make my week!

Sounds like Owen has really made some leaps and bounds since having his surgery and now being able to sleep better.
