Rash on back of the neck

A couple of days ago my 18 month old got a rash on the back of her neck between her shirt and hairline. Initially I though it was sun related then today I noticed a lighter version of the same rash in the same spot on my 3 yr old son. Any ideas what this could be?

Pollen? My DS with a pollen allergy gets a contact rash on his neck. Basically, what we've figured out is that he gets it on his hands playing outside, and then rubs at his neck and face when he's tired, which causes the contact rash. (He also gets the same rash on his face, where he rubs, and he also tends to have some eye redness with it.)

Heat rash? Very common in the neck, in hotter weather.

A new soap or shampoo or lotion or sunscreen you're using? My kids all get rashes from conventional sunscreens, especially when sweat and sunscreen are combined.

Interesting?! It could be anything...rashes are difficult, even for a pediatrician to diagnose. I would get it checked out. Can't hurt.
