how and when do you introduce the EC sign?

We are ECing our baby since birth, he is now 7 wks. going great (except my back is really messed up right now so it makes it hard to do as much as I want to but he still goes in the potty many times a day )
Anyway- we just offer him to go on the potty when we think he needs to and use cueing sounds.
How and when do we introduce the sign language sign to him? It takes bith my hands and all my strength (because my back is weak right now) to hold him over the potty and all. I don't understand how to do that while also doing the sign! Or is that just when they are bigger and can hold themselves on the pottY?

If both dh and I happened to be around for pottying, the other one would do the potty sign. We didn't really start doing the potty sign consistently until she could sit on her own, and even then we didn't get it every time. The first time she asked to use the potty, she said potty and frantically waved the potty sign.

I have done the potty sign from the beginning. I would use the sign before I needed both hands to take her and again when I had a free hand. As soon as she could sit with one hand I used the other to sign while she is going. We started ec at 8 days and...........she is 16 1/2 months and..............she doesn't use the potty sign at all. She signs eat, more, please. she sais a lot of words but potty isn't one of them. She just takes herself the the bblp or pats her crock and sais uh oh. That is usually before she goes but not always. So start whenever you want and maybe your lo will get it right away or maybe not.

We started using the potty sign at 6 months, when she could sit independently. She didn't start using it until 15 months, but it was one of the first signs she used (though she didn't regularly sign when she had to go for a LONG time).
