Help me pick the new color for my living room!

I've got a painter coming round in a few hours, with a color chart. He is going to start painting our living room tomorrow... and I'm still not sure what color would be best.

I've been thinking about a capuccino color, but now I am not sure. Can you help? It is a large room with not too much furniture. I work from home, in this room, and we also do craft and homeschool in the same room as well. I really want it to be a happy but also soothing color, and one that we don't get bored with too quickly. The room gets a lot of light from outside.

What do you think would be nice?

PS - I hope this kind of thing is OK to put in TAO. I know I've had a few posts moved before, so I am obviously doing something wrong. Still, I don't think "mindful home management" is the best place, especially as I have to decide in about an hour, and this place gets looked at most .

I painted my living room a sage/avocado-ish green this fall. I LOVE IT! It is very soothing and the color goes with nearly everything. Enjoy your new room.

How about something buttermilky? Like a creamy-yellow. Cheerful but soothing and good for reflecting all the light around

I was thinking about that too, but I was thinking it might be too cold? I have lots of red and warm accents. What is your furniture like and how do you think these colors go together?

Happy and soothing: A crisp, clean pale blue. Or a warm, pale yellow (butter).

I would have to see pics of the room to truly make an informed decision, though.

Hey Lisa Nice to see you again, how are you?

Creamy yellow or capuccino is my first choice, BUT everyone seems to use these colors these days, and every coffee shop has either of these colors. I don't want my living room to look like one size fits all!

So, I'm considering

1) Capuccino
2) Very pale yellow
3) Green, avocado, or mint
4) Light grey

Any more suggestions?

Light grey is fabulous. Especially with white trim. Very contemporary and calming.

Don't do cappuccino. Most people get tired of that color very quickly. And it certainly won't be bright and happy.

(Oh, I used to be an interior painter.)

I went with a beautiful warm color called Dutch Boy Baseball Mitt in my living room and I just love it.

(it is on the lower right corner of the second page)

It is warm, neutral so you can spice it up with reds, gold, and lots of other warm tones. Or you could do some turquoise or other bright colors.

I ended up choosing a buttermilk yellow, with brighter yellow accents. I'm still not sure if it will look nice

I think you'll like the buttermilk yellow. Not sure about brighter yellow accents. How will you use those?

Ehm.... on the two smaller walls . I'm not sure either, but because my furniture isn't exactly great, I need to rely on the walls to create the atmosphere. The brighter color isn't super bright, just brighter.

Oh, and at the same time, I am also having those bookshelves you screw into the wall applied to the brighter walls.

Sorry. All of the home decorating threads go in The Mindful Home. Also ~ those of us kind of addicted to home improvement shows hang out there.

I'm going to move it over BUT I'm leaving a redirect so people can scoot right over quickly and easily.

OK that done....

I butter yellow! When we built I chose that for the siding because I always adored yellow houses with white shutters. DD#2's bedroom is also yellow. It's a Behr paint and I think it was called Jonquil yellow.

My living room/home office is Tate Olive. It's very earthy and homey. I love it!!
I should grab a pic. It's an older photo, but the desk and the wall color are the same -- http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3140/...17bf073d_b.jpg

OP, if you are into color therapy and such, you'll be happy to know the buttermilk yellow you chose will be perfect energy for all the activities you stated happen in this room.

I chose an apricot/terracotta-ish color and I've never gotten sick of it in 8 years. I really wanted something warm but not too dark and not anything pinkish or cheesy looking. We have dark furniture and it goes nicely.
