Does anyone have any experience with this or information that you'd be willing to share?

PMs are okay too!

No personal experience but I've heard from a few other mamas that it really helped. I think if you personally don't mind the risks (less than cigarette smoke) and it helps you, then go for it. I quit shortly after I found out I was pregnant with my 11 year old. It made me paranoid and I felt guilty. Been having babies ever since, lol, so I don't generally partake.

The smoke from ANYTHING burning is loaded with carcinogens. One of the scarier ones-cyanide. I don't care what it is, smoking anything while pg is really out of the question. MJ is probably safer than cigs. but still you can't escape the fact that you are purposely inhaling smoke. Not good.

You don't have to smoke MJ to gain the benefits from it. There's vaporizing and edibles. You might get more responses in the MJ mamas tribe thread in FYT.

Thank you! Vaporization and eating it was something I just recently
heard about so I'm trying to do some research on that.

I understand that smoking anything is out of the question- in most cases. Being hospitalized and pumped full of meds, then more meds to help the side effects and TPN with all kinds of chemicals and aluminum is not good for you or the baby either though. And again, vaporization would drastically reduce that.

Several friends of mine have use a vape during pregancy for nausea. Get a good one (not a heated copper plate) that uses forced air. They're 100% smoke-free, and you'll use it for decades after baby is born.

I too have had some friends "partake" while in early pregnancy and one it kept her out of the hospital (after going into the hospital several times and being pumped full of god knows what). I also think I just read an article in Mothering about it...did anyone else see that, or did I read that elsewhere?

There is an article about it that can be found by searching pregnancy articles on mothering.com

Go to Finding Your Trib and there is a MJ Mamas tribe that will have lots of info.

MJ threads always get lots of opinions around MDC, and I'm always surprised at how many are NO, NEVER. I personally have had no reason to partake while pregnant, but I do feel if you use something other than smoke to use it, it's much healthier than alternatives for both you and your baby.

My sister used it to successfully manage her morning nausea. She had to get up and get two kids ready and drive them 20 miles on country roads to school. She made a tea and kept it in the fridge and drank it cold in the morning. She usually came home and slept all morning after that though.

I tried it a couple of times and it made the feelings of nausea go away but then when it wore off I felt even worse. I decided that I didn't want to have to be using it all the time so I worked on other ways to combat the nausea. I created this complicated ritual that ended up chasing away the nausea and I used it in my next two pregnancies as well. I started my day by sipping a glass of red raspberry leaf tea mixed with juice as I boiled milk with a little tiny bit of coffee for flavor and a pinch of sugar. Then I sipped on the milk while I was making oatmeal and prepared my oatmeal with molasses, maple syrup, almonds and topped it with plain yogurt. Somehow this settled my blood sugar enough so that I didn't throw up breakfast.

I had another friend who was hospitalized many times and not one to partake of MJ or alcohol or anything of the sort. She did try some MJ tea and it only helped a little but she still ended up back in the hospital for IV fluids. She discovered that grape recharge with lots of ice was the only thing she could tolerate.

I guess it's all trial and error.

I think just like in the case of all medicines/herbs that it works for some and not for others and that it has pros/cons involved in taking it. I would consult with someone in the know of how much/how often/and in what form. I know many people who have used various forms during pregnancy and it worked for some and not for others. I know some mama's who ended up with special needs kids and thought it was from that and others who ended up with perfectly find kids. There are no studies to prove it and again there are lots of medicines out there that don't have significant studies done to show what could happen in the long run.Do what feels right to you.
