Anyone else tired of the comments on your child's eczema?

So B has eczema. He's had it pretty much his whole life. I'm getting tired of the comments, so I posted this picture (along with a substantial caption outlining my thoughts) in my FB album. I thought some of you could relate to it so I thought I'd share it here. LMK if the link doesn't work and I'll find another way to share it.

Your baby is adorable! I'm sorry people have to be so rude to you. Keep up the good work & you'll figure out what's causing it.

Oh my gosh, what a great smile! Sorry you are hearing stuff like that, it's so rude. I think he is beautiful and he sure looks happy.
Good luck with finding what is bothering him.

He's beautiful and you are doing a great job. You are a wonderful mama. You will heal him and he will be grateful. I'm so lucky that my son has been finally healed without any known allergies afterall. I know the strength that it takes to heal naturally. BTDT. The comments that I heard were not typically about his appearance (I'm so grateful for that, I cannot imagine), but that he looked like he should be admitted to the hospital. Turns out, they were right...which made me feel very inadequate. I get it. (((hugs)))

It is impossible for your baby to get any cuter! I just want to squish him!

As someone who has had eczema all her life, I'll tell you that it can be extremely painful and itchy. If that's the case with him, I'd recommend trying some cream, even steroid cream, to deal with the symptoms while you work on figuring out how to solve the problem. Because no one wants their baby to be miserable, of course. But ezcema can also be completely painless and not itch at all. So if your boy isn't scratching/swatting at his face, then I'd say don't worry about it. He looks like he's about to burst with happiness, so you're obviously doing something right! And as for other people's comments... ugh... good luck.

What a gorgeous smile!

DS1 had bad eczema as well, but it's a lot better now. DS2 shows no sign of it so far. I have battled it all my life, and spent my teens refusing to wear short sleeves and shorts (yes, even my arms and legs, as well as torso, were affected...). I still suffer from it, but couldn't care less what people say or think, but the comments were really painful to hear as a young child/teen.

I don't know if this approach would work for you, but I would tell people right away what was "wrong" with DS so that I could avoid the stares/comments. At playgroup, I would just say "yep, it's a bad eczema flare-up, don't worry it's not impetigo or something else that's contagious...". Outside, I'd say "great, the sun will help his eczema" or "too bad it's windy, it's going to worsen the eczema..." I found that once people knew, they would leave it alone, and that way I didn't have to field questions. Also, DS1 is pretty comfortable with his condition now (at almost 4) and will use the same lines.

Slightly OT, be weary of cortisone/steroid creams - they can have serious side-effects, possibly worse that the actual eczema itself (yes, it's unsightly, but if the child tolerates it well, leave it alone...).

Hugs!

Yeah, my DD's looked like that as a baby and then all of a sudden it just went away all on its own when she was 9 months old and stayed away for a year after than and then I noticed she was scratching around her ankles areas and found eczema spots there, which stayed for several months, until I took her in for neuro emotional technique (N.E.T.) about 3 weeks ago and now her eczema is all gone (she's 2.5 years old now). The chiro found that her eczema was linked to a trapped emotion and he didn't find any allergy connection to it (otherwise he would have given a homeopathic mist he said). I never found any food or environmental allergy connection to her eczema either.
