Thanks! Your friend sounds like me. I may have just told the UPS delivery guy.

You're right. And it probably wouldn't get here in time, anyway. I think I'm going to go to a sports store in the city tomorrow morning and see if they're got anything. Worst case senario is that DF gets a gift-wrapped cat chew toy.

Thank you! I'm still finding it hard to comprehend that this is real, considering that just a few days ago I didn't even know that blue dye in pregnancy tests = bad. It's like I've gotten lucky (ba-dum-bum!) for the first time in my life.

Wow, CONGRATS to you!!
I just wanted to add an idea. Get a bun and put it in the oven. When he gets home ask him to "check" the oven as you have something "cooking". See if he gets it...lol

I've done that and it's hilarious! Or wrapping up the stick in a box and then putting it in the lap of a stuffed bear wearing the onesie. I've seen others do that one and it's too cute.

Oh my goodness! Thanks, Jenn! That's a great idea. He'll go crazy with Mets stuff later anyway, so this is perfect.

My head is spinning with possibilities now. Mini baseball gloves, basketballs, footballs, etc.. But no soccer ball. Actually, maybe a soccer ball. DF hates soccer with a passion, but I lived in the UK for six years so I have a certain fondness for it.

In fact, I'm now picturing wrapped tickets to a match. When he asks (whines, really) about why I'm forcing him to go to a soccer game I can say "Well, we've really got to get the baby started out early, don't we?"

Or, you know, burst out into giggles. Whichever.

Yay!

So, DF's plane was late (of course) Saturday night and by the time he made it from LaGuardia to my apartment it was well into Sunday and I had fallen asleep on the sofa. I woke up in my bed in middle of the night and there he was! I could have kicked myself - but first I had to pee. When I got back into bed I was racking my brain, "How do I bring this up right now?" Well, I can't tell you what I came up with because I fell asleep again.

Curses! Foiled again.

But yesterday? Yesterday was as close as magical as a day in my life has ever been. He'd already gotten me a Mother's Day present (from my cat) so I segued into the mini baseball glove, "Honey, this is so sweet. Could you open that package right there? My hands are full," something like that. Once he got it open and was holding it in his hands there was the appropriate amount of confusion then adorable dawning of recognition.

We had a lovely brunch and saw a movie (that he let me pick even though it wasn't my turn) before he had to go to work. Within the hour my phone was ringing all over the place (please take into account that it takes half an hour to make it from my apartment to his office) offering congratulations. I started to be angry before I remembered that I can't keep a secret, either, so I decided to let it go. You know, in the spirit of Mother's Day and all.

Best. Holiday. Ever.

I love it! It sounds like your pregnancy is off to a wonderful start. My SO is also a 34-year-old named Dan, BTW. They're good eggs, those Dans.

Thanks all! I figured I owed the reaction to you. My Mom called yesterday after she got her flowers and left me the most hysterical voice message I've ever heard - she called while we were in the movies. After DF went to work, I called her back. She's beyond thrilled and most the rest of the family knows already, too.

In fact, the only people who don't know yet are the people at my job. They can stay in the dark for as long as possible.

Blanca, I completely agree. Dans are the best, especially mine (and yours too, I'm sure!). I still don't know how I got so lucky.
